The Houston Texans needed to add a linebacker before the start of the 2026 season. Consider that mission accomplished entering the middle of April and ahead of the upcoming draft.

According to the reports, the Texans have traded for New England Patriots linebacker Marte Mapu as part of a late-round pick swap. The Texans will acquire the special teams standout and a 2027 seventh-round pick, while the Patriots will take on a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Last season as a subpackage linebacker, Mapu played in every game last season and recorded 25 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and five pass deflections. A former standout at Sacramento State, Mapu was named the 2022 Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year.
