For the last 15 years, Cameron Jordan, his 94 jersey, and the New Orleans Saints have been synonymous with each other. Jordan has played his entire NFL career with the Saints, a rarity now in any professional sport. His 243 games are more than anyone else that has played for New Orleans and 13th all-time in games played for the same team by a non-specialist. Only long-snapper J.J. Jansen of the Carolina Panthers (277) has more games with the same franchise among all active players in the NFL.
Currently, Cam Jordan is a free agent. He may yet be re-signed by the Saints before the season. Even through OTA workouts into early June, it just feels weird not to see Jordan's No. 94 on the practice field. With only 94 days until the New Orleans regular season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 13, it's appropriate to make Cameron Jordan our Saints Player of the Day.
Son of Steve Jordan, a six-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Minnesota Vikings from 1982 to 1994, Cam went on to forge his own legacy that surpassed his father's. Cam was a football and track star at Chandler High School in Arizona. He was a three-star football recruit that decided on the University of California at Berkeley, but also won the Arizona 5A state championship in the discus and had a top-10 placement in the shot put.
In four years at Cal, Jordan compiled 16.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss while intercepting a pass and scoring two defensive touchdowns. As a senior in 2010, Jordan earned 1st Team All-Pac-10 and Honorable Mention All-American honors. New Orleans then selected Jordan in a loaded first round of the 2011 draft that also included star defenders Von Miller, Patrick Peterson, J.J. Watt, Robert Quinn, Ryan Kerrigan, and Cameron Heyward.
In his 2011 rookie season, Jordan didn't make a great impact with 1 sack and 4 QB hits despite 16 games of action. After that, he'd become one of the greatest players in New Orleans franchise history. He'd be one of the league's most consistent pass rushers, but his outstanding run defense made him perhaps the NFL's finest all-around defensive linemen. Jordan stayed on the field in nearly every situation, yet showed remarkable durability. Despite an annual high snap count, he's missed only two of a possible 254 starts in his 15 NFL seasons.
In 2025, Jordan proved naysayers wrong by showing he has plenty of high-level football left. He led the Saints in sacks with 10.5, his highest total since 2021 and seventh year with double-digit sacks. Jordan also led the team with 15 tackles for loss and 15 QB hits while adding 22 pressures. All this while playing many of his snaps as a stand-up rusher, something he hadn't done consistently in his career.
New Orleans has a need at edge rusher opposite of Chase Young. Carl Granderson and newly acquired Tyree Wilson should be serviceable, but bringing Jordan back is the most sensible course of action. Cam Jordan's list of accolades and achievements are lengthy, but his contributions in one more year with the Saints are both deserved on his part and a need for the team.
