The Tennessee Titans completely overhauled their coaching staff during the offseason. Head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley are all new to the organization, as well as several position coaches. There are plenty of new faces on the roster, too, and the organization is very excited to see what 2026 will bring.
Recently, Cam Ward sat down with Sirius XM Titans Radio broadcaster Taylor Zarzour. Zarzour was in the building when the Titans announced that Daboll would be the new offensive coordinator, and he saw Ward's reaction.
Zarzour says he knew Ward felt like he and Daboll would connect and asked if it's working out.
"Oh, it is," Cam said. "It's a perfect match. We're actually the same person, you know; he's just an older version of it. We're both hotheads; we can both get to that point, but he's taught me to be more calmer. And just how I handle stuff on the field, you know, even though I handled it the right way. But the biggest thing that we preach is keep it tight. We're gonna have bad plays, we're gonna have spurts, but there also is a time where I have to get on somebody's (expletive) or not.
"There are also times where, in bad plays, that's the time for me to lead and just motivate them and not try to push them too hard because (if) they make a bad play, they're already thinking about it. So I don't need to continue to emphasize it, and that's something, and that's something he's helped me see on that side of his point of view.
"But he has us in a great spot on offense, especially early on in camp. We're making some great plays, we're making some bad plays as well, from the quarterback room and all around too, but he's seeing the game from a quarterback's view."
Daboll's propensity to go from zero to hothead in a split second is known throughout the league, and while he may ruffle some feathers here and there, he is an overall well-liked coach. Ward recognizes Daboll's football IQ, and he recognizes that he can learn a lot from his new offensive coordinator, especially when it comes to temper control.
Ward has to be stoked to have his development overseen by the same guy who developed Josh Allen, who has four Pro Bowl selections and won the MVP award in 2024. To be fair, Allen is an MVP candidate almost every year. Ward wants that kind of success. He wants to lead his team to victory, and he understands that Daboll is a great way to get there. His improvement will be visible on the field this fall.
