The Tennessee Volunteers will not be landing one safety target in the college football transfer portal. Making matters worse, the safety could transfer to an SEC East rival.
On3's Pete Nakos reported the Florida Gators are making Patterson, who didn't visit the Volunteers, a priority in the portal.
"Florida is ramping up its intensity to land Zaquan Patterson, who has made visits to Gainesville and Ole Miss," Nakos wrote. "The Gators continue to indicate to Patterson that he is a top priority. Oklahoma State is pushing to get Patterson on campus, and the Cowboys will take an in-home visit if necessary.
"Tennessee did not get the safety in for a visit over the weekend."

On3 has rated Patterson a three-star transfer portal player.
Patterson departed the Miami Hurricanes with some controversy. The safety told On3's Steve Wiltfong that he was "displeased" with Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal.
“He let the upperclassmen show up late to practice with no reprimand, giving reps to people who have a horrible work ethic. I just didn’t feel respected," Patterson told Wiltfong.
Patterson spent just one season with the Hurricanes. The safety came to Miami as a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.
During the 2024 season, he had 19 combined tackles, including 15 solos and four assisted tackles, and three pass defenses in 12 games.
Patterson played at Chaminade-Madonna High School in Hollywood, Fla. According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, he was the No. 6 safety and 14th-ranked Florida recruit in the 2024 class.
