No. 15 Tennessee (4-0) defeated UNC Asheville (2-3), 10-3, on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Blaine Brown started as a pitcher and batter for the Vols. He pitched one inning and recorded three strikeouts and 16 pitches, including 10 strikes, against three batters. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound sophomore did not allow a hit, run or walk to the Bulldogs.
He went 1-for-5 and hit a RBI double in the sixth inning.
Freshman left-handed pitcher Cam Appenzeller (1-0) relieved Brown and pitched four innings. He totaled four strikeouts and 56 pitches (34 strikes) against 15 batters.
Henry Ford and Stone Lawless hit one home run each for the Vols.
Tennessee will return to Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Friday for a three-game series versus Kent State. Friday’s series opener is slated for 4:30 p.m. EST, while Saturday’s Game 2 will take place at 4 p.m. EST. A series finale first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST on Feb. 22.
