The Tennessee Volunteers football team landed one of the most coveted transfers in EDGE Chaz Coleman, who followed defensive coordinator Jim Knowles from Penn State. However, Coleman has dealt with homesickness and other medical issues that kept him out for most of the spring.

As summer workouts approach for the Volunteers, it has been reported that Coleman has still not arrived back on campus.

“Tennessee football edge rusher Chaz Coleman has not reported yet to the team's summer workouts, which began on May 25, a source confirmed to Knox News. The source requested anonymity because UT's team activities are not open to media or the public,” Knox News’ Adam Sparks wrote.

During his media availability, head coach Josh Heupel addressed the situation, which now appears to be in even more of a state of uncertainty. Heupel continued to make it clear that Tennessee will support Coleman.

“Chaz has been dealing with some things,” Heupel said. “and we’re here to support him and we’ll continue to go through that process.”

The Volunteers do not want to lose Coleman, as he is their most highly coveted transfer in the portal class. However, at some point, the situation could become a distraction. In a new update from Fox Sports Knoxville’s William Patteson, Coleman has now deleted his Instagram account.

“Tennessee EDGE Chaz Coleman has deleted his Instagram amid a post from earlier this month going viral online. The Penn State transfer has yet to arrive in Knoxville for voluntary workouts, and continues to be one of the most confusing storylines of the offseason,” Patteson posted.

To be clear, this is not a Boo Carter situation where Coleman is simply holding out of workouts for NIL reasons. Coleman is legitimately dealing with personal issues that he is trying to adjust to.

However, deleting his social media account adds another layer to an already unusual situation that hopefully reaches a resolution soon. Coleman is a talented football player who is simply trying to work through things as best he can.
