TCU basketball isn’t easing into Jamie Dixon’s 11th season.
The Horned Frogs are taking a rebuilt roster to Costa Rica for two exhibition games that should offer an early look at whether this group can become another NCAA Tournament threat.

TCU will face the University of Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday at Seminario, a private college in San Jose. Saturday’s game begins at 9 p.m. CT, followed by Sunday’s matchup at 5 p.m. CT.
Admission is free, but fans back home won’t have access to a video stream, radio broadcast or live statistics.
Updates will instead be available through TCU Basketball’s account on X, with postgame numbers posted on GoFrogs.com.
The games won’t count, but they won’t be meaningless.
Dixon is attempting to blend 10 newcomers with only four returning players from a team that reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons.
Three starters are back, giving the Horned Frogs enough continuity to avoid a total reset while still creating plenty of intrigue around the new rotation.
All-Big 12 forward Xavier Edmonds is the centerpiece of the returning group.
Brock Harding, Micah Robinson and Tanner Toolson also return, forming the experienced core Dixon will lean on as roles begin taking shape.
The newcomers carry serious upside.
Gavin Sykes arrives after earning 2026 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year honors, while Trent Lincoln joins the program after finishing last season as the nation’s No. 1-ranked junior college player.
Costa Rica gives both players and the rest of the incoming class the opportunity to show how quickly they can handle Dixon’s demands.
Ottawa should provide enough resistance to expose any early cracks. The Gee-Gees finished 16-6 last season, won their final eight games and averaged 83.7 points, the third-highest mark in Ontario University Athletics.
That’s not a passive opponent arriving merely to participate.
For TCU, the biggest questions will involve chemistry, defensive communication and lineup combinations.
Dixon must identify which newcomers can complement Edmonds, who can settle the offense and which players are prepared to earn minutes once the real schedule begins.

Nobody should overreact to an August exhibition in another country. Still, this is the first opportunity to see what Dixon has assembled.
