A week ago, few college basketball observers would have predicted that the Wisconsin women would be the state team that made the longest run in the postseason.

But the team that entered the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament on a 10-game losing streak is still alive.

The Badgers won their second straight road game in the WBIT by taking down Miami, 72-65, on March 22 in Coral Gables, Florida.

UW earned a home game in the quarterfinals and will face the Eastern Kentucky-Harvard winner on March 26.

The Badgers (15-17) have been much-improved under first-year head coach Robin Pingeton. The Big Ten had 12 teams make the NCAA Tournament, with that tough competition contributing to UW's long losing streak before the WBIT.

BOX SCORE: Wisconsin 72, Miami 65

UW finished second in the Big Ten in 3-pointers made, and 13-for-25 shooting from long range contributed to the Badgers beating the Hurricanes (18-15).

Graduate transfer guard Destiny Howell led UW with 23 points while shooting 6 for 10 on 3-pointers.

After a defensive slugfest in the first half, UW took a 23-15 lead into the locker room. Both teams found their offensive rhythms in the second half, with the Badgers shooting a scorching 10 for 11 on 3-pointers in the final 20 minutes.

UW took its biggest advantage at 56-40 with 8:20 remaining, but still had to sweat out the last few minutes. Four turnovers in the final 4 minutes and 29 seconds helped Miami climb back into the game.

The Hurricanes got within 67-65 with 45 seconds on the clock when Gal Raviv made 1 of 2 free throws.

But UW was able to push the ball after rebounding Raviv's miss, and Dorja Zaja made a layup to give the Badgers enough breathing room to survive and advance.
