WICHITA, KS – Wisconsin women’s basketball will again be without one of its upperclassman guards for its WBIT semifinal game against Columbia.
Breauna Ware did not make the trip with the team to Wichita, head coach Robin Pingeton told the Journal Sentinel, in an absence that is not injury-related.
“It’s a long season,” Pingeton said when asked about the nature of Ware’s absence. “It’s not easy being a student-athlete, so just kind of pushing pause a little bit here, kind of recentering, recalibrating.”
Should Wisconsin advance to the WBIT championship game on April 1, Pingeton said that Ware still would not be available.
Ware was not on the court for Wisconsin's WBIT quarterfinal win over Harvard or WBIT second-round win over Miami (FL). She was on the floor for only 54 seconds during the Badgers’ March 19 win at Oregon State.
Ware appeared in 25 games and started 13 times after transferring from Stony Brook. She averaged 5.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in her redshirt junior season.
The 5-foot-7 guard has not been held scoreless since exiting the starting lineup in mid-January, missing her last 10 shots. She also did not appear in UW's games against UCLA on Feb. 22, Iowa on March 1 and Illinois on March 4.
She will have one year of eligibility remaining after this season.
