Dallas has a two point guard lineup like McDonough always envisioned in Smith and Doncic. I do think he was right about this but the Suns never had the right combination.

Dragic knows Igors system better than anybody other than maybe Doncic. I see goran as a pure PG. The only reason he isnt with the Suns to this day is because MCD created a cluster F at PG and Dragic was moved out of his natural position. But everyone knows the history of what happened. Goran would be the best PG the Suns could bring in to run Igors system which could possibly speed up the playoff timeline?

I'm not sure Goran is a pure point guard but I agree with what you are saying.

If prior to the draft you told me the Suns would trade the #16 pick, Miami 2021 pick , and Chriss, I would have guessed we landed Kemba Walker. Instead we got Bridges, Anderson, and Melton.

Why would you pay a GM to do a full year of scouting and prep for the draft and then fire him one month before it? It would make sense to switch much earlier in the year than after the season ends.

Like I said. I would rather keep McD. I do not have confidence in Sarver's abilty to pick a GM. But I have no problem with the timing of this.

All GM contracts end when a teams season does. That wouldn't be the case though if things were how you say. You pay a GM for a lot more than preparing for the draft and the offseason. There are scouts for the draft and I would think a GM would be more involved with personnel decisions like the scouts, coaching staff, and then current players before they even move outside of the team to look elsewhere for talent to add. They would probably look at trades and free agency themselves more than the draft also, especially teams that are competitive and not at the top of the lottery.

It's not exactly the opposite of what you're saying. If you believe in the GM enough to let him handle the draft and coaching search, firing him now could be seen as "early".

For anyone interested here is a link to the Sarver interview. It's listed as 24 minutes and 34 seconds, perhaps a good thing to listen to while watching the first quarter or playing it halftime. I would imagine that the announcers will touch on it briefly but since the game involves the Warriors and is on NBA TV the commentators won't be talking about it a lot, if at all in any sort of detail.

Not early as in "too early." It takes a full year to prepare for the draft and free agency. If you want a new GM, you want him on board now, not in May. He can watch a full year of college ball, travel overseas, evaluate potential free agents and then go into the summer ready for bear. You cannot do that with only a few weeks of prep.

The fans also don't have access to the in depth plans that the front office had going into the off season. Some of the fans that were on board with firing McD earlier may have been willing to give him a shot if they had heard his plans for the off season.

if those same fans heard his plans for this off-season included spending all of our cap on an aging role playing SF, trading two first round picks (one of them unprotected) on another 3-D small forward and making zero attempts to get a real PG, they would have told you what they told you at the end of last season...

I echo others. McD has made a lot of gaffes and has severely struggled with player relations...

But none of this is new.

Did he and Sarver have a screaming match last night or something? This is chaotic. McD's dismissal was warranted but this is like firing your captain just after you left port and he hand picked the entire crew.

I had been hoping Sarver's become hands off but clearly he hasn't. He is still the #1 reason for the franchise's struggles.
