I don't see Koa beating out Miles for the 4 spot for a year or two but if something falls through with Bridges, I don't see any other power forward on our roster that I'd start over Koa. Too bad they can't be on the court at the same time but, outside shooting notwithstanding, their games are probably too similar to share much court time.

I can't either, but I can see spot situations in small ball lineups where one of them plays at center.

When the Suns want to get quick and rough, matching another team's physicality, I can see it happening.

I can see the Suns looking at signing Koa Peat to a similar contract as Isaiah Evans.

First round picks are slotted and he already signed his deal.
I don't know if I am confusing this with the NFL, but if you draft a guy in the first round, don't you get an extra year of control on that player?

In essence, it may have been the reason we took Koa at the end of round 1, over the beginning of round 2?

NFL 1st round picks get 4 years guaranteed and a 5th year team option, 2nd round picks don't have the 5th year option and guarantees can vary. NBA first round picks get 2 guaranteed years that are slotted with team options on years 3 and 4 then the RFA year. NBA really doesn't have any slotting or structure for 2nd round picks, so it can really be anything as long as it doesn't exceed 4 years.

This is true, four years, $15 million, with two seasons team options.

The Suns were wise to get him under contract before summer league.

I keep thinking Wes Unseld and Koa Peat have similar body types. So I asked AI:

"Similar Builds: Koa Peat is a 6-foot-7, 245-pound forward SI Draft Report, which perfectly matches Wes Unseld's exact rookie measurements of 6-foot-7 and 245 lbs."

BTW, Wes Unseld won the Rookie of the Year AND the MVP award his rookie season.

His salary was set as a 1st round pick. When he signed didn't really matter. I'm glad there was no hold up but really the only point on his part would have been if he wanted to return to college.

Since everything is set, arguably it is better to sign as soon as possible before something weird happens that could put the contract in jeopardy. IDK if it speeds up the paychecks or not, but that would be incentive, also.

I wonder how Unseld would fare in today's NBA. Players are bigger now.

Wes was strong as an OX. Probably the signature thing he did was rebound, keep the ball high, and whip passes with his arms and wrists like bullets with superb touch and feel. I once watched an interview on TV with Wes and the interviewer said he was told Wes could throw a pass from one basket to off the backboard of the other basket. The interview was on the court, and Wes showed the guy he could do it! Guys tried to back him down and it was futile. They just had to try and shoot over him. Koa Peat is exactly the same size Wes was as a rookie. No doubt that Peat can play today. So I would say yes.

I think Koa and Fleming might be able to play with each other. Their games complement each other, especially if Fleming's 3 point shot continues to develop.
Plus Peat and Man Man were assisting each other on baskets, too. Those three guys seemed to have a rapport already. I can just picture them being our future front line.

Since we're not going any places (financially, high draft picks, contending -- thanks James Jones and Ishbia!) we have the time to develop them (Maluach, Fleming, Peat). I hope the coaches do a good job and that Ott gives them consistent minutes. It is okay if Peat starts in the G League, but if those cats are not running around on the court around Christmas I will be disappointed!

IDK, I will be depressed if Peat, Maluach, and Fleming don't get regular minutes this season. Even 10-15 a game. Otherwise, unless Miles Bridges is a complete game changer and we are reeling off wins, I'm going to start to tune out. You have to give young guys some minutes so they can measure themselves, and start developing confidence they can play in the league. IDK, I listen to podcasts and they say the 240 minutes we have to allocate per game, and the guys like Booker, Green, Bridges, Brooks, Williams, Goodwin, Gillespie, Kennard, Oso, Highsmith, etc., are going to garner, it almost mathematically eliminates the young guys.

Yeah, but don't forget that Booker and Williams will probably miss a fair amount of games, and that Highsmith might be further down in the pecking order. Also who knows how good the hamstring will hold up for Jalen Green. I still have nightmares about KJ sitting out large parts of the seasons when we had Barkley. Hopefully trainers and doctors have this more under control these days.

Fleming fits in on many lineups because of his shooting, size, and defense. He can cover many positions on the floor. If Williams is out that means Maluach can share minutes with Oso. I guess Peat can work as a big guard/small forward in lineups where there are enough shooters on the floor. I am optimistic.

Getting rid of Allen and Royce was needed to solve our size issues (defense, rebounding). Hopefully the young guys, along with Kennard and the return of Gillespie and Goodwin, will provide enough outside shooting (around Booker and Green).

I sure hope they spend time on the G league. Hell Williams play some time down their his second year. Peat, Man Man and Fleming playing together down their.

Well, I guess I'd rather they play down there than not play anywhere but to me, Peat is ready for spot minutes and Maluach looks ready for a regular spot in the rotation.

Too much depth is a good problem to have. Things have a way of sorting themselves out.

Also, this would allow the Suns to explore trades if they find a need.

They have to make some decisions at some point. Moving Dunn is probably in the near future. Too many young forwards to develop them all.

I loved Dunn as a rookie. Are we sure he's not going to take the next step this year? I hate it when we deal a player ready to burst, like that guy we sent to Dallas (Michael Finley), but that was maybe to get Nash back? [It was to get Kidd.] But yes, with Peat and Fleming, Dunn might be the odd man out. He needs minutes.
