What center in the league has explosiveness? I don't even think of Embiid being explosive.

Manuach is 18. Most male bodies do not fully fill out muscle wise until 25. That is 6 years from now. He already moves very well for his size. He could become a monster.

I'm telling you what I see now. Things can change.

However, presently, he is too slow to elevate and react to NBA game speed, both offensively and defensively.

Btw, Maluach is 19.

I stand corrected on the age.

To me he looks like he'll either be an impact player when he finally peaks or he'll be out of the league in a few years. He has a lot going for him but his heavy feet are a real concern.

I'm only talking about what I see now. With playing time, a lot of my concerns about Maluach may disappear.

There is a lot to like and I've already pointed these out.

Whether Maluach is 18 or 19 is not of huge importance to me other than a reference point.

Heavy feet is a new terminology for me. It makes it easier to describe the characteristics of certain players.

Maluach can elevate nicely, but it's usually off of movement.

If anyone has ever watched deer jump, they can jump over a fence while standing still and of course they have that quick twitch. I'd like to see more of this if he has that type of athleticism.

What we might be seeing is indecisiveness due to lack of basketball experience.

Yeah, I'm talking more of what it looks like than than the actual cause. I too hope it's just a learning situation for him but we won't know until he fails or succeeds I guess. But as I've said several times, he has the right attitude and everybody around the team seems to love him.

Count me as one of them who likes Maluach, his potential and work ethic.

Zubac turned out nicely and he was not an elite athlete.

This is where it's helpful to have realistic expectations. He is young, raw, and has only been playing for a few years. Young bigs take a while to develop. I have zero concerns so far since my expectations for his play this year were non-existent. He seems like a smart kid who is willing to learn, has a good attitude, and works hard, That's all I can ask for when it comes to a teenager who had never picked up a basketball until five years ago or so.

I just don't see the heavy feet thing. He is a 7-2 center. He is not a small forward. He moves well for a 7-2 center. It's true that he doesn't move like Wemby, but no one on the planet is like Wemby.

So beat out Oso for rotation minutes. He cant do that. He was too much of a project for me to consider at #10.
You can't teach size. He's only 19, btw. What were you doing when you where 19? LOL.

There is a lot to like? Like what.

Yes he has good size, his shooting touch seems decent - but that's pretty much it.

He is a bad rebounder, he is not a good defender, his jumping ability and movement speed is subpar, he doesn't even seem to be good at getting himself into position to score.

I knew he was raw when we drafted him, but if you can't even put up average numbers in a G-league game with his size - that is enormously concerning.

He was drafted 10th overall. There are expectations for that. Don't tell me you can't be a good NBA player at 19, I have seen several that have been.

Let's see, I was stationed in Germany, married, taking college classes and seeing Europe as the opportunity arose. Oh, and going on Volksmarches when the weather was good and getting drunk at every beer fest that was within a few hours of us. With that last action being the most common as I was passed-out drunk for a fair portion of the 39 months I spent there.

You were off to a good productive start until the last part.

I blame it on German beer. Tasty, incredibly inexpensive and ubiquitous. They served it everywhere, even in our mess halls. Not that I regret any of it, well any of it that I remember - like I said, I was often drunk when not on duty.

We had some German Army types at our base and the guys told me that beer was part of their rations.

The only way to move forward is to forget where he was drafted and develop him to his fullest potential. Once the draft is over, it doesn’t matter any more. Hopefully our GM and coach realize this.

This goes for players drafted high and for players drafted low. It’s foolish to neglect to develop a promising player just because a second round pick; or to be constantly frustrated with a player because he is not what you thought he was when you drafted him high. Take home where he is. Develop him to his fullest potential. If he can’t cut it in the leagues then face it. If he was drafted high, but he is a career back up player, make use of him in that role.

We're in a great spot being able to bring him along slowly. Everyone who thinks he's a bust or bad pick needs to settle down some considering no one saw us where we are today.
