Ok NBA Finals over let's talk Suns. I continue to expect Phoenix's top priorities this offseason to be retaining Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin. They can start talking today.

I guess it's all about price. Suns want to avoid luxury tax this year. MW for 13m, CG for 9m, JG for 8m this year, and try to save 10m or so by trading away GA and RO, this'd be doable.

Because he said top 2 priorities. You can't squeeze 3 guys into the top 2 priorities. He addressed this earlier.

Gambo says what almost all of us were thinking.

The Suns will likely want to keep Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin. And why not keep Mark Williams if the price is tight.

More on the Devin Booker, changing his number to #15.

Mark Williams also wears #15.

@GeraldBourguet

(I am unaffected by Devin Booker’s jersey change. This also does not necessarily mean Mark Williams is gone, since dudes will sometimes buy specific jersey numbers from guys in the league if that number is already taken.)

Not a fan of players changing their numbers. It’s an identifier. But also not really a big deal.
Same. Not a fan when they change while on the same team but I don’t really care. I’d probably care more if I bought jerseys. 15 is cool though. I wore that one in high school lol

I fear we are about to overpay a bunch of guys to lock in a roster that is going to be a playoff bottom feeder at best for the foreseeable future.

What other option do we have at this point? Would you rather overpay Jordan Goodwin or overpay someone that is at a Haywood Highsmith level? I know what I'd pick.

I think we are going stand pat/firm this year on any big payouts/overpays and roster moves. Not much we can do. Let this year go by and we have an actual pick next year, and one less off the books for guys like Allen and Oneal to make them more attractive. The kicker is paying Beal, if we would have just held out last year on him.

I’m talking about overpaying the guys already on the roster. For everyone complaining about Grayson’s contract, we are about to make the exact same mistake with Brooks if we offer him a 3 year deal for 25 million or more per after his similar complete and utter outlier season for like Grayson had that we will regret probably within a year.

And anything more than 10 for Gillespie is likely gonna look like an overpay as well.

But Brooks is the short term gain for long term pain contract I’m really worried about helping clog the cap moving forward, especially as Booker’s contract starts really ballooning also.

I'm thinking James Jones paid Royce O'Neale and Grayson Allen those extra years with the thought of using them in trade.

A trade for a big man that never happened.

Suns goal is to stay under lux tax. So, Brooks extension is not much of a problem except overpaying would be stupid like giving GA that 4-year contract. Anyway, as Brooks is quite one-dimentional on offense, I'd be willing to trade him at high for some other assets.

GA was obvious overpay at the time. Nobody were to offer him more than MLE that time. Overpaying makes him a hard trade.

My thoughts at the time, James Jones had a plan to use those contracts for a trade.

Times have greatly changed in the NBA since then. Now those contracts may need sweetener to move.
