Dillon Brooks will be re-evaluated in 4 to 6 weeks and Jordan Goodwin will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks.

Good lord Goodwin also 1-2 weeks? These aren’t just a couple games. These are weeks we are talking in . . . we either have terrible training staff or incredibly bad luck.

book watch:

devin got injured on february 19th against the spurs - they said evaluation in a week - we don't play again until march 3rd - by my hippie calculations that makes 2 weeks plus it's the kings we're playing - then it's back to our house against the bulls who are 24-36

we don't want book dealing with a lingering injury - the time spent without shows how much we need him and like ott said last night - he's playing new lineups and lineups that have never played in crunch time together - these minutes matter - we're deep when it comes to clutch

my biggest worry is activating book early incase we need him - which is crazy because we will need him lol - look - we're locked in at the 7th seed for the foreseeable future unless we can leap frog the lukas - they play 2 more times before we even step foot on the court again- zen master says we'll see

Based on your analysis, seems to me his best game to return would be the next game after the Bulls game. We should be able to hold down the fort until then.

One other factor that is probably at play is the 65 games eligibility for post-season awards. Book (by my math) has missed 16 games, which means he can only miss one more before he's ineligible.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that. I wonder if the Book and the Suns care about that. Seems to me like it's more important that he's healthy going into the playoffs. If he comes back too early and gets reinjured, it's all for nought.

I don't think all-nba impacts his salary anymore, so there's no financial incentive (I could be wrong on this). The prestige of all-nba is still pretty nice though, and he should be in the running for that.

I think the trade-O'Neal people should consider quieting down and holding that position less fervently. It may be true that O'Neal is too short, old and limited as a defender; but he is clearly a professional; and the victory over the Lukas demonstrated that O'Neal hits valuable shots. He makes fewer long-distance shots than Grayson Allen, but is probably the most clutch long-distance shooter after him and I guess Devin Booker. More than either of those qualities, O'Neal is probably the most injury-free veteran Sun not only this season, but since he came here last season. I vaguely remember him being hurt once his season, but not badly--I think he either lost only one game or he just played hurt. I suppose he gets battered frequently because he has to guard taller forwards.

If he gets hurt I'm calling you the jinx.

For the record, I've been team Royce since he was acquired. I probably overrate him, if anything. He's been a great pickup and the sort of guy you need in your rotation because he's a Swiss army knife of sorts. He is capable of doing virtually everything but doesn't really stand out in any area.

Call me crazy, but that describes the perfect all-around role player.

He isn't perfect, his rebounding is a bit weak, but like the Swiss army knife it has some weaknesses. Given his lack of ego, durability, and drive though I feel like that is forgivable.

Rebounding is so different in the modern NBA also with the high volume of 3's that most misses end up back out behind the arc so it's tough to compare stats across generations.

I don't think Book is close to being in the running for any ALL-NBA slots this season. Just off top of my head, Mitchell, Shai, Maxey, Jaylen Brown, Ant-Man, Cunningham, Brunson... hell, even Jamal Murray, have all have had much better seasons than Book at the G spots.

Not "perfect" as in he's a perfect player, but he fits what a role player should be perfectly.

All-nba switched to positionless last year (or maybe year before) and so he's not strictly competing against other Guards. A number of mainstays on the all-nba teams from last few years are already ineligible because of the 65 games, (Giannis, Tatum, Steph, Lebron), and a few more threading the line of missed games (Jokic has missed 16, Wemby has missed 13). It's not inconceivable that Book makes it if he crosses the threshold.
