I didn't hear anything, but in the football subscription I get it lists all the bios of all the players for the draft, and it lists Suggs 40 yard dash time of 4.63. I don't know where that time came from. I wonder if that is what he was timed at once at ASU? Maybe he is faster than the poor workout he had last month. Below is the bio I got on Suggs.

2003 NFL Draft:
TERRELL SUGGS, Defensive end
School: Arizona State University Sun Devils. Height: 6:03.3. Weight: 262. Hometown: Chandler, Arizona

ANALYSIS

Positives…Well-proportioned athlete with a thick upper body frame and torso…Smooth muscle-type with defined hips, calves and thighs…Has linebacker-type instincts, quickly locating and closing on the ball…Compensates for a lack of bulk with great use of his hands to shed…Has the leg drive and brute strength to defeat blocks and prevent from getting covered up by the larger linemen…Has tremendous edge quickness to gain leverage coming from the outside…Relentless in pursuit and has exceptional pass rush agility…Consistently uses counter and spin moves to the inside…His powerful hand punch and arm extension allows him to guard against the chop block while continuing his quick flow to the ball…Has the balance and body control to move down the line and the burst to accelerate to the edge…Technique tackler who moves forward with superb flexibility to counter blocks and close on the quarterback…Has exceptional open field balance and change of direction skills…Agile dropping off in pass coverage and gains instant penetration with his explosiveness coming off the snap…Uses his hands properly to sift through the traffic en route to locating the ball carrier…Shows great playing strength when taking on the blocker and has the ability to control, adjust and react quickly off the block…Stays at a very low pad level to avoid chop blocks…Has the vision awareness and speed needed to handle the tight ends in the short area…Opens his hips properly, showing the agility needed to plant, level and cover the opponent in his pass drops.

Negatives…Even though he has great power, he generally gives up considerable bulk to the blockers and his lack of size could see him shift to linebacker at the pro level…Small size prevents him from getting consistency when attempting to stack the pile…Struggles at times vs. the double team and has to use his leg drive better when attempting to split blocks.

CAREER NOTES

One of the most dominating pass rushers in the history of college football and certainly the most decorated defensive player in Arizona State annals…This relentless pursuer of quarterbacks went on to shatter school, conference and NCAA season-records with 24 quarterback sacks in 2002… His career totals of 44 sacks and 65.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage set school records, topping the previous mark of 41 sacks by Shante Carver (1990-93) and 58 stops for losses by Bob Kohrs (1976-79)…Started 34 of 36 games for the Sun Devils, collecting 163 tackles (109 solos) with minus 288 yards on 43 sacks, 354 yards lost on 65.5 stops behind the line, 14 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions and nine pass deflections.

Suggs fails to improve times
By John Clayton
ESPN.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arizona State defensive end Terrell Suggs took his second crack at improving his 40-yard dash speed and he failed.

Running on an artificial surface Friday, Suggs ran 4.87, 4.9 and 4.93 40s weighing 258 pounds. A month ago, he ran similar times even though he had been training for three months to become faster and prove to teams he has great speed off the corner.

Those who attended the March workout at Arizona State felt that Suggs may have cost himself the fourth pick in the draft by running in the 4.8 and 4.9-second range. The Cardinals, who have been looking for a pass-rusher, appeared to be the most interested team in taking him with the sixth pick, but his poor time may make that less certain.

The workout featured head coaches and front office personnel from the Cardinals, Chiefs and Texans along with other teams. Suggs ran three 20-yard shuttles in 2.84 seconds.

Those aren't considered great numbers. Suggs set a collegiate record with 24 sacks last season, but most top pass-rushing defensive ends run in the 4.6 to 4.7 range.

I didn't understand, why he wanted to run again anyway..... especially if he knew in his mind he couldn't get faster.
Before today there was some doubt because he was "believed" to have 4.6 speed.
Now he has removed all doubt.??

All well and good but what does he run in pads with a helmet on with a OL in front of him?

Do people think he's gotten slower by gaining weight? Doesn't seem like he's gained that much.

I still think he's the most logical pick for us, he'll even be motivated both by staying home and proving wrong all the teams that dropped him because of his workouts.

Suggs/Robertson/Leftwich any of the 3 I'm happy to take at 6.

what's 2 tenths of a second anyway????? Can he play football???????? Absolutely. If we pick him he'll be going against some of the top tackles in the NFL daily in practice. This will only sharpen his skills, & hopefully accelerate his development into the Games most feared pass rusher!!!!

windy..but he ran against and with the wind - and it did not make much difference - 4.82 vs. 4.85. they said on kdus one of the guys (not sure who) running a stopwatch had suggs at 4.90.

I guess jerry jones came out today and said newman and suggs were at the top of their board..but I guess a week or two ago parcell said they had trufant over newman... The b.s. is flying.

If I had to guess...the texans are off the suggs bandwagon..Chicago and dallas are, in my guess, the only 2 teams ahead of us who still are interested..and both could look elsewhere on draft day. I need to turn the radio off for a week. Kdus says in one segment that dallas is interested in suggs..then in the next segment the same broadcaster wonders if suggs will be a top 10 pick...

FWIW - If trufant is the guy the cardinals want - they will not trade down and try to get him later...they will take him with #6 if that is their guy...

Dang! I guess I can't add him to my shuttle team.

I'll bet you if they stuck Big in his path and set up a life-sized cutout of Jeff Garner or Kurt Warner at the finish line, he'd zip around the side of Leonard and close on that puppy in around 4.6!

I hope the Cards trust their eyeballs, thank their lucky stars that he "sugged" in his workouts and then draft Suggs if he's there at #6.

Exactly. I don't think some people understand what 2 tenths of a second is. It's litterally the blink of an eye. I made a 50 dollar bert with a guy I work with the Suggs will have 9.5 sacks or more his rookie season. Money in the bank IMO.

This is a disaster.

Please please please don't draft a speed rusher with no speed.

Yeah, I know he's quick off the ball, but so are the lines he'll be going against.

I love it! I was worried that he would post a better time and we would not have a shot at him. I think we have a good chance at getting him now at #6.

Do you think the poor times he ran could have anything to do with the 50 pound anvil that I tied to his belt shortly before he made his runs?

Dude, as Jeff would say, "trust your eyeballs".

He runs much faster than that on the field.

this absolutely raises huge concerns. he's just not fast. you can argue about his abilities in college 'til you're blue in the face, but you could've done the same for burke and corey moore also. some tangibles carry weight and, unfortunately for suggs, he does not (get it? i'm clever). so he's undersized and slow (and believe me, 4.9 is SLOW for a premier DE). those are legitimate concerns, particularly given the fact that he specifically trained to get faster this time around and wasn't faster! suggs is starting to scare the dickens outta me. i'm waaaaay in the leftwich corner and leaning towards the robertson corner secondarily.

homerism is great, and i loved watching suggs for the devils last year, but it may end up being a HUGE gamble to grab him at #6. previous undersized guys who were drafted early and succeeded were blazing (freeney, kearse, little), but suggs is both small and slow. would you be excited to draft any player at any position if i were to give you those two attributes?

scary. very scary. i hope i'm wrong, but i'm scared.

oh, and that two-tenths of a second that you're talking about, that veritable "blink of an eye" is a HUMONGOUS difference. i don't know the last time you ran a 40, but i remember running 'em in college and as a MLB for a div III program I ran what was considered a fast 40 of 4.85, the DBs that were running 4.6s and 4.5s (remember, Div III) were kickin' my ass. it's a big difference.

I'm absolutely crushed too. How will we ever win the "NFL Superstars Track Competition"? I mean, we might wind up with the slowest DE in the Pro Bowl. How will I show my face in public?

I'm starting to have my doubts about Suggs, too--particularly if he becomes a Cardinal.

Maybe he is faster. So, what's slowing him down? Someone suggested that he'd been partying a lot lately (ran into an ex-teammate of Suggs on campus? Something like that). Why would that change after the guy becomes a multi-millionaire? Well, it might if the guy moves to an unfamiliar city, but it certainly won't when he's surrounded by all of his buddies that are either still in school or fresh out.

Hell, I was still partying my ass off for 2 years after I graduated--and I was working at UNO'S!!! It took me leaving the area to "straighten up and fly right."

If the rumors of Suggs' off-season recreation are true, the worst thing that can happen to this kid is to be drafted by the Cardinals. I hope they're not true, and he has his head on straight and he just bungled a couple of workouts. Time will tell, I suppose.

At this point I might be happier trading down if we can get 2 #1s. It'd be pretty sweet to be able to get a DE (maybe Haynes or McDougal?) a CB (maybe Woolfolk or Smoot?) and a WR (maybe B. Johnson or Boldin?) in the first 37 selections.
