Dark Tower Series is awesome. My wife and I read 1-3. We have the 4th but haven't read it yet. Wish King would finish up the series, so we could read them all right through. He is really dedicated to getting these "right" and won't even write them unless he's "in the zone."

Do pick it up. While I love King's horror novels, his Dark Tower series by far surpasses his other body of work - imo.

I haven't read the newest edition of The Gunslinger, but I've heard that there is about 10% new material in it now, so I'll be picking up another copy soon.

The good thing for you is that if you start reading them now, you don't have to suffer through waiting many years between each book. The final three will all be out by the end of next year. The first four are out now with book 5 coming this Fall.

Books 1 & 4 are my favorites so far, but all of them are exceptional.

"The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed."

That's one of my favorite opening lines from a book.

Let us know what you think and how you like it.

Well darn near three years later and I finally read this Shawn. I must say I was not impressed at all. I will not be reading anymore volumes of this series. Just way to slow. Beyond to much character development. Not to mention to many things that dont make a whole hell of a lot a sense.

I pretty much felt the same way. The Dark Tower series didn't hook me either.

Hey Shawn...

I'm on my Dark Towers mission now. Read The Gunslinger last week and am halfway through The Drawing of the Three.

So what's up with book 5? You said two years ago it was coming out, but my neighbor's only gave me the first four like that was it? Is there a 5th out already?

Just be happy you could make it past the first book. Man that was godawful.

Stephen King has really downslided. I loved his 70's and 80's books, but since "Tommyknockers" I have no interest in reading him anymore. Really slow plot development and not so interesting premises.
