A new potential suitor for star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has reportedly emerged according to a recent article shared by Stein Line founder Marc Stein. Per the Stein Line contributor, he has been tipped off to a "fascinating scenario that we've been advised not to rule out completely: A possible sign-and-trade run at Boston's perennial All-Star Brown."
The Georgia native has of course been enmeshed in all manner of trade rumors in recent weeks after being dangled along with draft picks for Giannis Antetokounmpo in the failed pursuit of the Greek Freak that ultimately saw him end up on the Miami Heat. Take all such rumors with a moderate dose of skepticism, but this is certainly one to monitor.
"This would certainly require Detroit to be willing to part with restricted free agent big man Jalen Duren in a sign-and-trade exchange for Brown, which would obviously clash with the Pistons' longstanding view that Duren and Ausar Thompson are franchise pillars alongside Cunningham," adds Stein, who also notes Boston could always turn elsewhere to move Brown.
"The Celtics, too, are known to be seeking the addition of a greater interior presence this offseason," posits Stein, who reports that the failed Antetokounmpo pursuit has other teams believing Boston will need to trade Brown despite parties "close to the situation insist that the Celtics don't see a reconciliation as an impossible goal."
"Will Boston continue to field offers Brown? For sure," said the Stein Line founder. "Are the Celtics aggressively pursuing an alternative Brown trade that, unlike those Milwaukee talks, they can get to the finish line? A matter of debate ... Boston is only prepared to move Brown in a scenario that keeps the Celtics in legitimate contention with the newly crowned champion Knicks atop the Eastern Conference."
