It was reported Friday morning that the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons could consider a sign-and-trade blockbuster deal sending Jaylen Brown to the Motor City and All-Star center Jalen Duren to Beantown.
So much for that idea.
"Detroit Pistons are conveying that Jalen Duren will not be moved and are solely focused on coming to terms on an agreement to keep their All-Star center, league sources tell me," senior NBA insider Chris Haynes wrote on X.
With the Celtics recently missing out on acquiring two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, despite reportedly offering a Brown-centered package, Boston has been forced to pivot.
"JB" could possibly still be on the move, and the Celtics have been heavily featured in trade rumors surrounding New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III and Bucks big man Myles Turner, among others.
Duren would arguably be the biggest get for Boston though, if they could pry him from Detroit.
Not only are the Pistons one of the Celtics' biggest threats in the Eastern Conference, but Boston is in need of a star big.
Duren fits the bill, finishing the 2025-26 season with a career-high 19.5 points per game, as well as 10.5 rebounds and 28.2 minutes per tilt across 70 contests.
The 22-year-old was a first time All-Star, finished 11th in the Defensive Player of the Year voting and third team All-NBA as well.
