Powell was signed alongside former UFL and Jets receiver Isaiah Winstead, who was previously reported to be coming to Pittsburgh.
Wide receiver Colton Dowell was released, and offensive tackle Lorenzo Thompson was waived/injured, to make room for the new signings.
Powell, as well as Winstead, worked out for the Steelers last week. Here’s what we wrote about the latter then:
Powell is another Clemson product. He recorded 882 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final collegiate season before going in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft to the Kansas City Chiefs. He scored a 7.59 RAS pre-draft, running a 4.53-second 40-yard dash. Powell has appeared in just three NFL games, mostly on special teams, with no career catches. He had a brief stint on the Steelers’ practice squad in 2025.
The 6’0, 204-pound receiver has also spent time in the UFL, as well as brief stints with the Seahawks and Texans.
Follow along with BTSC as the Steelers see their first preseason action against the Green Bay Packers at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday.
