We are just over a week to the start of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp and some real football. The Steelers have been quiet since the end of minicamp but we expect things to really heat up once the team gets back together.
Unfortunately, for all the moves the Steelers made this offseason to improve the roster, we expect there to be some turnover in the offseason and something of a rebuild to start with the 2027 NFL draft. We've updated our 2027 NFL mock draft ahead of training camp with a full five rounds and the entire draft centers around the contract extension for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. If Porter isn't re-signed, the Steelers could target a cornerback in the first round, which would give them some freedom to deal Porter. If Porter is re-signed, cornerback is off the table and the Steelers would address a different position.
For this scenario, we present two mocks side by side with one focusing on cornerback and the other not.
Robinson is a lockdown cornerback who played with Steelers corner Daylen Everett. If Porter leaves, Everett slides into the starting lineup with Jamel Dean and Robinson is the first guy off the bench. If the Steelers can pass on Robinson, they land Oklahoma DT David Stone, who is the perfect replacement for Cameron Heyward.
We go wide receiver in both of these scenarios, with Wingo being the better big-play option but with him off the board, we go with Young. Both of them would be in line to start sooner rather than later if the Steelers cut ties with either DK Metcalf or Michael Pittman Jr., alongside Germie Bernard.
A run on quarterbacks in the first mock leaves us with Alliegro, who is the best run-stopping linebacker in the draft and one of the best I've graded. In the second mock, we pass on him in favor of new Miami quarterback Darian Mensah who should have a huge season after coming over from Duke.
We go Penn State here either way and considered Neal with both picks but we have a feeling Pat Freiermuth might be on the way out, so why not replace him with a more athletic version from the same school? Neal is the safer pick for sure and would fill a more immediate need.
Sticking to the plan, we go with a quarterback here in mock No. 1 and opt for a low risk/high reward prospect. Leavitt is coming to LSU from Arizona State and might end up being drafted much sooner than this. In mock No. 2, with inside linebacker still a need, we roll the dice on Campbell, who has been very productive.
