Steelers make franchise-altering decision in latest mock draft originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense under Mike McCarthy, right now, looms as a huge question mark, mainly due to the uncertainty at the quarterback position.
With Aaron Rodgers' future still uncertain, that leaves Mason Rudolph and Will Howard as the other options for McCarthy to start in 2026.
Unless he gets another quarterback...
Which for CBS Sports' Mike Renner, in his latest mock draft, the Steelers do, and take Alabama's Ty Simpson in the first round.
"The Steelers hired Mike McCarthy to do what Mike Tomlin never could quite get done -- develop a young quarterback," Renner wrote. "Before injuries hit, Simpson flashed plenty of tools over the first half of the season to grow at the NFL level."

Should Steelers move for Simpson?
The general thought is that Simpson isn't a proper first-round talent, but towards the end of the first round, a team like the New York Jets or the Arizona Cardinals might trade up and take him.
But should the Steelers?
They already have Howard, whom we haven't seen much of, so could the franchise, instead of reaching for Simpson and risking another potential Kenny Pickett situation, go with Howard and look towards next year's draft for a quarterback? That is an option.
Of course, if McCarthy is sold on Simpson, then I think the franchise takes him, but again, all of this is predicated on Rodgers not returning.
How will this all shake out? I have no idea.
