Analyst urges Steelers to think long-term at 1 position in NFL Draft originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room is in a state of flux until Aaron Rodgers announces his intentions for 2026.
But with the draft in a little over a week, we've heard that Rodgers will give the franchise his decision before then, so we don't have too long to wait.
So, how can the Steelers approach the draft with Mike McCarthy now at the helm? With Mason Rudolph and Will Howard on the roster, could Pittsburgh take another quarterback?
NFL.com's Adam Rank thinks so and has the Steelers doing exactly that in his latest mock draft.
"Imagine rostering Aaron Rodgers and drafting his replacement," Rank wrote. "Hmm, there's something familiar about that scenario ... In all seriousness, giving Simpson a year to develop behind Rodgers would be a great strategy."

Is Simpson the long-term answer?
He could be, but Pittsburgh also needs to find out what it has in Howard as well. Plus, the 2027 draft is reportedly set to have a handful of top quarterback prospects.
So, what the Steelers do in the draft this year will impact what they do in 2027.
Does the franchise wait and go forward with either Rodgers, Howard, or Rudolph before potentially taking a quarterback next year? Or go for Simpson?
If Pittsburgh loves everything about Simpson, then it will likely take him.
Rank thinks it's a good strategy to get a young quarterback to sit behind Rodgers, and it is, but I'm not sure it should happen in this draft.
