The Pittsburgh Steelers may have just lost out on another free agent wide receiver option following a new report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

According to Fowler, the Indianapolis Colts aren't giving up their top wideout in Alec Pierce without a fight, which could spell bad news for the receiver-needy Steelers this offseason.

"The [Colts] have made it clear to Pierce that he will be a Colt, either through a tag or a long-term deal, before the new league year," Fowler wrote. "The Colts have work to do to make that happen, but that is the plan."

Colts have made clear to Alec Pierce they plan to keep him via a franchise/transition tag or a long-term deal.

But a tag for Jones is becoming a real possibility due to the absence of a new deal. Some in league believe Indy is leaning that way. https://t.co/GAO1KwPY0tpic.twitter.com/0u1JIFLKFP

Selected by Indianapolis with the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pierce put up respectable numbers during his first three seasons with the Colts. He put together a breakout Year 4, however, recording 1,003 yards and six touchdowns on just 47 receptions.

With Pierce expected to remain with Indianapolis, the Steelers could still find another wideout via free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft. And the latter seems like a more realistic possibility, especially given Pittsburgh's heavy interest in the position at the NFL Scouting Combine.
