We can take one wide receiver option off the board in free agency for the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, via Pat McAfee, the Indianapolis Colts are re-signing wideout Alec Pierce, who was considered the top prize at wide receiver in free agency.

The deal for Pierce is for four years and $116 million.

"Indy lands its top target: Free-agent WR Alec Pierce is returning to the Colts with a four-year, $116 million deal, per Pat McAfee," Schefter wrote.

Pierce was widely expected to get anywhere between $25-30 million on a new deal. This agreement with the Colts hits the $29 million per year mark.

That amount was probably too high for the Steelers anyway, as the team is paying DK Metcalf a large sum of money to begin with.

The Athletic's Vic Tafur reports that the Niners were interested, but clearly they couldn't get the deal done.

New England had the most desperate situation at wide receiver and there were no shortage of fans hoping Pierce would land with the Pats. Now, New England will have to look elsewhere for help.
