When former Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey played, he was part of some of the best rosters in the NFL during that time. But unfortunately, all that talent was never able to put it all together and win a Super Bowl. Pouncey recently appeared on Cam Heyward's Not Just Football Podcast and talked about those elite rosters and how things would always go wrong down the stretch.
Pouncey talked about how great those teams played all season, but when it got down to it, the group stopped playing as a team and everyone went their own way. Pouncey said he felt like it was a case of guys trying to see who could be bigger than the others type of mentality which sounds like selfishness kicked in and the needs of the team got put to the back in favor of the wants of the individual.
We appreciate Pouncey saying this but this is something we could see every season. Even on defense, the egos seemed to take over late in the season and it was a case where these guys were listening too closely to how great the media was saying they were. They didn't come into games late in the season with the same intensity and focus as they did earlier in the year.
