One of the closest duos in Pittsburgh Steelers history — Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey — is one fans enjoyed for over a decade. With Pouncey advancing in the Hall of Fame voting, Roethlisberger revealed his honest feelings on the entire process.
Speaking with reporters during the Steelers' Super Bowl XL celebration ahead of Week 9's matchup vs. the Colts, Big Ben shared what his reaction will be to Pouncey’s inevitable Hall of Fame induction — one that he believes is deserving of first-ballot consideration.
“When it comes to [Pouncey], I’ll probably start crying because of how much he means to me,” Roethlisberger said via Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. “That guy, he’s a no-brainer. He’s first-ballot, should be. I love that guy.”
Selected with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Pouncey was tasked with protecting the equally legendary Ben Roethlisberger during his decade-long tenure with Pittsburgh until he retired in 2020 — earning five All-Pro selections and nine Pro Bowl nominations in the process.
There’s no debating that Pouncey, selected to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, is surely a first-ballot Hall of Famer in the eyes of Roethlisberger and Steelers fans alike — but it remains to be seen if the talented center will advance in the voting process.
