As if Mike McCarthy’s Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff couldn’t get any bigger, a recent report indicates another new hire is on the way.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Steelers are expected to hire former Las Vegas Raiders interim special teams coordinator Derius Swinton II as their new assistant special teams coach.
Swinton began his NFL coaching career in 2009 as a special teams quality control coach for the St. Louis Rams. He then coached special teams for the Kansas City Chiefs (2012), Denver Broncos (2013-2014), Chicago Bears (2015), San Francisco 49ers (2016), and Chicago Bears (2017).
After a short stint as the Detroit Lions offensive assistant coach in 2018, Swinton returned to coaching special teams with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, in addition to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021, and the Las Vegas Raiders from 2023-2025.
Head coach Mike McCarthy joined the Steelers organization with a bang, making several big changes to Pittsburgh's coaching staff, including some high-profile hires that fans can take a look at here.
