The Pittsburgh Steelers may have found another trade suitor for edge rusher Alex Highsmith after Jonathon Cooper’s recent legal situation created some uncertainty for the Denver Broncos.
According to multiple reports, Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper was arrested for the second time after allegedly violating a protection order. He was initially arrested on misdemeanor criminal mischief and domestic violence-related allegations before prosecutors later added a felony charge of second-degree assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor third-degree assault charge.
With Cooper’s availability for the Broncos up in the air, Highsmith could be viewed as a logical target for Denver, potentially opening the door for trade talks very soon.
Highsmith, drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has recorded 45 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and 337 combined tackles in 90 career games.
Sports Illustrated's Grant Cohn already suggested that the trade asking price for Highsmith could sit near a second-round pick, but it remains to be seen if the Broncos, if interested, would offer the premium draft capital.
