Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested again on Thursday. Cooper's arrest was made on "charges of domestic violence, violating a civil protection order and harassment (repeated phone calls)," according to the Denver Post's Luca Evans. He will appear in court this morning.
Even before that second arrest, Cooper was already facing additional charges of "felony second-degree assault by strangulation and misdemeanor third-degree assault," according to Evans. After Cooper and his girlfriend were originally arrested on June 4, Cooper initially faced charges of misdemeanor criminal mischief.
“We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter," the Broncossaid in a statement, according to the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel.
Cooper's 2026 outlook has now come under a cloud of uncertainty. After his first arrest, Cooper pleaded not guilty and had a motion hearing set for July 6, followed by a jury trial hearing on July 22. Cooper posted an apology message on social media last week.
Broncos coach Sean Payton said the team had "a long visit" with Cooper following the pass rusher's first arrest. "The league obviously will be very much involved in that," Payton said. "We’ll stay abreast, but much like you all. I think that’s where it’s at. We just go from there.”
Cooper was present at practice when Denver wrapped up the second week of organized team activities (OTAs) on Thursday. The Broncos' spring program will wrap up with a mandatory minicamp next week (June 16-18).
