Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Payton Wilson was just hit by a wave of disrespect after he was named the team's most likely bust for the 2026 NFL season.
Bleacher Report argued that Wilson was the most likely bust candidate for the Steelers this upcoming season, specifically because of his inconsistency in pass coverage.
"Wilson has shown the traits to earn a two-down role in run support, but he must show improvement in pass coverage for a true breakout year," Bleacher Report's Moe Moton wrote. "Although Wilson stood out as a tackling machine, he struggled in coverage, allowing two touchdowns and a 104.7 passer rating. With Patrick Queen's inconsistencies as a cover defender, the Steelers need a reliable linebacker on obvious passing downs. Wilson's time on the field could be limited because of lapses in coverage."
Wilson, selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has appeared in 34 games and made eight starts since entering the league. He's recorded 204 combined tackles, nine tackles for loss and two interceptions over the past two seasons.
ESPN also sent a little shade toward Wilson and the other linebackers this past week, as the group was named the weakest part of Pittsburgh's roster. But DC Patrick Graham's new scheme should play a huge role in shifting the narrative in 2026.
