Led by general manager Rafael Stone and head coach Ime Udoka, the Houston Rockets have made it clear that their ongoing run in the 2025 NBA playoffs is a useful tool to evaluate younger players on the biggest stage.
Through five games in a first-round series against the Golden State Warriors, the brightest star has been All-Star center Alperen Sengun.
On a per-game basis in the playoffs, Sengun leads the Rockets in points (20.8), rebounds (11.0), assists (5.2), and steals (1.8). He's the first center in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists through his first five career playoff games., and Sengun has posted those numbers while often going up against Draymond Green — a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
“It doesn’t matter who is on Alperen, we feel like we have an advantage every night,” Udoka said after Sengun's 31-point, 10-rebound performance in Game 4 (via Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle).
With Sengun starting in the middle, the Rockets will look to extend their 2024-25 season in Friday's Game 6 at Golden State. Trailing 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, tipoff from San Francisco's Chase Center is at 8:00 p.m. Central.
