Thought a poll with more and different choices might be interesting.

If Josh survives this year, next year he'll have to compete with Navarre (who is a "Denny guy"). I think King will be out of the equation next year.

If he doesn't get to play this year I will agree with you completely. If he does, I think Josh will be the guy who's gone given his contract status.

But if Josh starts 16 games, King will almost certainly not be a Cardinal next year.

I don't think any of them are legit NFL starters. Josh is the closest thing though and Denny says so.

I don't know what it is I'm missing about these Josh arguments. I don't particularly care if he starts and I don't particularly care if he gets benched. All I care about is wins. I don't care which QB gets us from A to Z.

King should be starting, but not because he's a legit #1, but because I simply think he could be better than Josh. Maybe he's not, but it can't really hurt out O to find out, I don't think.

It might cost us a game if he chucked a couple of oskies.

How big would that be?

I'm assuming an oskie is an int? ...it might cost us a game if we throw for 90 yards again, too.

Pariah, you contribute a lot to this board, and I'm not trying to be contentious. But, jake use to kill us with the TOs. TOs are backbreakers. Probably the main thing that Josh has going for him now is that he is not losing games with mistakes.

Maybe ATL. But I don't buy all that "well he couldn't get a first down to kill the clock" stuff.

Anyway, as long as we're winning and in the playoff race, I wouldn't make a change. That's just me.

that's really the point of the poll and it looks like my quick and dirty choices weren't good enough. The idea was who do you think should be starting, and why. So far just one person has voted Josh, because they think he's a legit starter. but there's just too many variables to try and cover to make the poll informative. i hate polls, I was just trying to spread out the previous poll where people were saying Josh, for one half unless he plays well but if he doesn't then bench him etc. Trying to find out how each person really saw the QB's.

At this point in the season I would prefer to see Shaun King under center.

I seen enough of Josh McCown long ago to know he is not going to get the job done as an NFL starter.

Next season I want to see almost anybody but McCown or King at the QB position. I would like to see Navarre get a good look. He impressed me in the pre-season with his shotgun arm and precision passing granted it was against 3rd string competition, but he showed more to me than McCown ever has.

I am not hyped on any of the QB's coming out in next years draft like I was with Leftwich and Roethlisberger.

This team will not even come close to reaching its potential as long as McCown is engineering this lack-luster offense.

I think you miss the point of your own poll. It is a landslide for Josh getting this whole season to determine IF he is a legit NFL QB.

Some have already made that call. The vast majority have not.

Denny has veto power on all poll results...

no that's precisely what I wanted to know, how many people think he's our best QB, think he's a good QB, think whatever Green thinks is all that matters etc. it's not new I've been asking people that for awhile now, just usually the same people answer and I was curious how the bulk of the board felt.

I've got the answer I expected, but again I didn't list enough choices, just too many variables for the poll to be very informative.

it could be big - but I'm not sure where you really get off here just automatically assuming King will make more turnover sversus Touchdowns than Josh would - I mean after all their TD:Turnover ratio throughout each of their careers are King: 31(total TDs):24(total turnovers) versus Josh: 12(total TDS):19(total turnovers).

And just as Pariah said - it might cost us a game if we ever pass for only 90 yards again.

I just don't get why all of a sudden people think that King would just become a turnover machine I guess.

Because they think the reason Josh is playing is he's NOT turning it over recently, so therefore Green must think King WOULD, otherwise he'd be playing?

Ughh.

This is painful. If you didn't choose one of the first three choices, you have answered incorrectly (with the obvious exception that you can think that none are legit starters). The "Dennis Green Says So" option holds no water because everything that Dennis Green has said so far about McCown has proven incorrect.

Worse yet is the overwhelming number of people who voted for "He needs a full season to be fairly evaluated". There are so many things wrong with that answer I don't know where to begin.

1) Going to the playoffs is more important than McCown's development. Even if you believe that next year McCown will break out and be the Brett Favre clone that Green envisioned, that does not mean you blindly stick with a quarterback when you are one game out of the playoffs with almost half the season to go. That's absurd. If you believe he's the best QB on the roster, that's different, but that's not what this answer indicates.

If the Cardinals fall out of contention and you want to let McCown play through his struggles, great. But that is not a viable excuse while the postseason is still in play.

2) I'm unclear as to why McCown needs a "fair" opportunity....He didn't earn his job, it was handed to him and he's done nothing to show he deserved that. Is that fair to King and Navarre who are working hard but were not eligible for a job that was handed to McCown? Is it fair to Emmitt Smith who wants to go to the playoffs in his (perhaps) last season? Is it fair to Boldin who is playing for a new contract that he has to play with a QB who can't get him the ball?

I do believe Russ is correct that there are a number of variables to the equation, but I believe the correct poll question should be "Which QB gives the Cardinals the best chance to win this week?"

As an aside, I think the articles that came out this morning were the first public acknowledgement that McCown isn't getting it done. I think King will be in by the 2nd half this week.

We will never be any better than an also ran with McCown. Can you picture in your mind Josh as a starter in the superbowl? That is where we all want to go. Somehow something is wrong with that picture.
