[/size]The San Antonio Spurs have announced that they have signed forward Glenn Robinson. Per club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed. At the same time the Spurs waived Dion Glover.

Robinson has averaged 20.8 points and 6.1 rebounds in his 679 game NBA career. The two-time All-Star spent the entire 2004-05 season on the injured list before being waived by New Orleans on 3/2/05. Robinson began the season with the Philadelphia 76ers before being dealt to the New Orleans on 2/24/05 in exchange for Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Rogers. Glover, who signed his second 10-day contract on 3/30/05, appeared in seven games for San Antonio. He averaged 3.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.7 minutes.

Right. Or Oliver Miller would've carried the T-wolves all the way!

But seriously. The fact that they just potientially added a cancer to their team in an attempt to make a run for HCA is interesting news to Suns fans.

Anyone wanna bet it doesn't work?:)

At least he plays defense really well...
He hasn't played all year. I say Pop knows that an 8-5 team, as they are now assembled, can't beat out Phx for HCF. And he's smart enough to worry about playing on the road even if TD is healthy. He was the biggest name out there and a pure gamble. 20-1 it fails but you can't blame the logic I suppose.

He cant be on the Spurs roster for the playoffs, right?

ESPN has him listed as being waived on March 2nd. If that is the case, he will be ineligible because players must be waived by March 1st.

However, fox sports has him being waived on the 1st. I have a hunch that the date is correct, or else the signing makes little sense.

So, look for Robinson to be on the Spurs playoff roster.

From a little more reading the fact that he cleared waivers before March 1st may make him eligible to make the playoff roster. So I'm not sure on that. They waived Dion Glover for this guy. Odd move I say.

Damn it took too long to type my mini-rectraction. This sign still makes little sense because he's a lousy fit IMO,plays zero D, and has always been shoot-first. that was for the few games he played last year. Why the gamble?

What is the big gamble?

They waved a guy on a 10 day to make room for a veteran that can shoot?

Sounds like a good deal to me. The Spurs are a veteran team that has established players and coach that calls the shots. The disruption risk is minimal I think.

It does indicate that the Spurs think they are short of offense for the playoffs and are desperate for another bench player.

The Spurs have a history of veterans on the bench who don't play unless there are a bunch of injuries. Still seems like an odd pickup.

So he will be eligible for the playoffs?

Maybe this means Duncan is worse than they're letting on.

I understand that GRob is a better player than Glover. But Glover is much better defensively and was a great 10-day contract for them. He played with a lot of heart and the Spurs liked his energy off the bench.

I love hearing this news. The Spurs are nowhere near as confident in beating the Suns in a 7 game series as are their fans. His matador approach to D (which hasn't changed since his Purdue days) will be a serious liabilty in the playoffs. Everyone on the Spurs must play D or they get no floor time. I personally hope he makes their playoff roster-but I doubt it.

He's nothing but a 32 y/o jumpshooter with little playing time last year and none this year. Hustle players like Glover are good waiver pickups because because the hustle players don't require much time to knock off the rust. Their bench became more shollow for the remainder of regular season (check out their 3 spot now).

Out of our 5 starters who can he guard? No one. And in the remote possibilty he can bring something to the table this quickly, who to we have that can guard him? JJ/Matrix/Q (lately).

IMO, they gave up on trying to catch the Suns now that I see a few more facts. Chicago picked up Jannero Pargo off 10-day waivers late last year and still have him. He was/still is a streaky shooter but has developed some D and somehow found some playmaking ability to his game. He is now someone who could be packaged with others for a pick in the draft or they just continue to develop him. The same could have been possible w/Glover. He was a good signing that, although not eligible for the playoffs, was a Spurs kind of reserve (i.e. defensive minded with hustle).
All I'm saying is that I'll take the contrarian view that releasing Glover was worse that signing GRob. That man brought his jumpshooter to the NBA and nothing else. Good luck trying to score on us, guy. Immobile jumpshooters make our D look good.:)

BTW, no one else picked him up after all this time?
