agreed. it's REALLY nice to be a) relevant again and b) out of the Lakers bracket!

Call me crazy, but whether or not we get Lopez back, I think the Spurs are the better matchup. Dallas just has too much size for us. Their bigs always give Amare problems and Dirk just flame-throws our ass now.

I tend to agree. If at the very least the dallas games i always found more stressful. 20 point leads in our playoff games with dallas almost meant nothing.

The swings of emotion in those games are too much. I remember game 5 2006, we go up 9 looking like we can get in great position to win the nba title right there. Tim thomas blows a kiss to dirk, and he goes off for 50.

remember that vividly. For some reason, as DA seemingly always did, he went away from the hot hand that Thomas was torching the Mavs with and we didn't score for like four minutes as Dirk got hot and the rest was history.

I remember that. I was in mexico!!!! dirk and step up threes. love it when he shoots with confidence. He can do that more than he does.

I don't know. Even when Manu, Timmy and Parker were at their peak, the Mavs beat them back in their hey-day. Even with him at full strength, this series would be a toss up. I think the Mavs win in 6.
well put. In that series manu wasn't much of a factor until that late push by the spurs and they still couldn't beat the mavericks. in that game 7 manu put the spurs on his back...but then tried to guard dirk which was his only mistake. I think this series has so many variables and matchups. the mavs have 2 young guards that can run with parker if they so choose. the spurs have no answer for dirk unless they double him. caron butler is a new weapon. dampier and haywood should be able to attempt in guarding a older TD. manu is the worse matchup, but marion and butler have the size and speed to at least make him work hard. I think the mavs should win this series.

Believe it or not I think the spurs want to play the suns. Not that they tried to get into a matchup with dallas because that is not what they want either. However, the suns are a problem for ths spurs now that their halfcourt style is much older and less effective than it once was. The spurs shooting is also less consistent. I just think that the mavs have more depth and are more complete from top to bottom than the spurs. they can bang with them and run the off the court at the same time.

I think the suns would beat the spurs in a 7 game series less than 7 games. I think the mavericks would be a much tougher matchup for the suns. the mavericks right now are more complete than the spurs are. It is just a matter of being able to execute.

I don't see it as a "matter of being able to execute". The Mavs probably win in a series VS the Suns because they have more talent. Picking up 2 quality players for the inconsistent Howard moved the Mavs to the League's elite IMO. Sometimes it just boils down to who has the best superstar so the Mavs may not win it all but 10 deep they have the most talent in the league, IMO.

I meant executing vs the spurs...and the mavs win.

i agree about the superstar thing. dirk is not a LBJ or a kobe bryant. but he is up near the top of superstar players and might be the best closer in the game not named kobe yet he doesn't get much credit for it.

Not really worried about the Mavs or Sterns because it will be a tough series either way they are going to beat each other up. The Suns could wrap their first series up and just sit back and get well rested to beat either of the banged up Spurs or Mavs. The Suns have been playing the best ball in the west for the past few months lets keep it rolling!

The suns/blazers series could be longer than the mavs/spurs series. you just never know...and the blazers will be rough on the suns no matter how long the series is. So the suns will be in for a long haul no matter which texas team they face. I think the mavs depth gives them an advantage over many teams over the course of a series.

Last year a more frail dallas team beat the ginobliless spurs in 5. now both teams come into this series a lot stronger than last year, but the mavs appear to be a lot deeper. the spurs injury to hill really hurts them when parker is on the bench especially. again this is where depth should tip the scale in the mavs favor.

You saw all you needed to see? Really? I saw a pretty close game with Dirk having to go off for damn near 40 to sqeak out a win. I think your kidding yourself if you think the Mavs are just going to rollover the Spurs who know how to get it done in the playoffs.

they had a double digit lead late in the 4th qtr and dirk only took 2 shots in the 4th. He had 32 points through 3. They actually didn't squeak it out if you watched the 4th. The first 2.5 quarters were tough though and dirk/butler put the team on their backs at times. Then mid to late 3rd pop went to hack a damp to slow dirk down and I think the towell was on the court at that point.

I still think most of the team played very well especially damp and haywood. terry was a no show and kidd had a remarkable 4th qtr and almost had a triple double. I don't know how many games this will go. but if they mavs win game 2 the spurs are in huge trouble. I think the mavs can win one in SA...it has always been good for them there.

The problem for the spurs isn't that they don't know how to get it done in the playoffs. they just don't know how to get it done against dirk and the mavs. they have lost 8 out their last 10 games vs dallas and the last 2 playoff series. and they have no answer for dirk. It's almost as if the tables have turned. I remember in the nash days dallas had no answer for duncan and parker and we would just watch them torch us every game. I remember one season where dallas finally beat the spurs by 1 or 2 points in a game. It took nash to score 50 to beat them...and duncan scored 48 in that game.

Yes. We controlled that game, and we didn't even get contributions from Terry. 5-1 last year, 3-1 this regular season. I've seen all I need to see. Mavs in 5, 6 tops.

After game 1 Portland was 3-1 against the Suns. Game 2 went a little differently. As my mom likes to say "don't count your chickens..."

Wow! I would say wait till game two, you can never write off SA. I think Mavs will take it but it is going to be hard fought.

^ Thats what I am saying its not like they blew out the Spurs! Their acting as though they own the Spurs and regular season records is enough to go by. Sorry I respect and hate Popovich and he is the better coach in this series and coaching matters in the playoffs where it is all about game planning and adjustments.
