Brian Windhorst on LeBron James free agency: I think Boston would rank 30th on his list. I really honestly do. He hates Boston. Tim MacMahon: I wonder if OKC did. I wonder if the Spurs did. Dave McMenamin: My understanding is there was some sort of Spurs dialogue. I don't know whether it was pitching, but it was some sort of dialogue. Brian Windhorst: If there's a premium Klutch client on the team, they probably did, which in the case of San Antonio, the Spurs clear have that [De’Aaron Fox].

Maxime Aubin: Are the Spurs pursuing LeBron James? I asked RC Buford about it. Here’s his answer: “What I will say is that we’re excited about the team we’ve been able to keep together — and to add Tobias [Harris] to that, plus our young draft picks. I think our history shows how we build teams.” Full one-on-one interview with the Spurs CEO tomorrow in @lequipe — 7/17/2026 x.com
Barry Jackson: ESPN reported this afternoon that it's realistically down to Cleveland, Heat, Philadelphia for LeBron. — 7/17/2026 x.com
“The process is what’s most important,” James said. “Because if you just fully immerse yourself in that, then the outcome will take care of itself. If you’re already worried about the championship, or you’re already worried about the playoffs, already worried about what lies ahead, then you will skip steps along that journey. So, being with a franchise, being with a group of guys that kind of has the same model.” — 7/17/2026 Miami Herald
“Listen, I love golf. I really do,” James said during his Thursday appearance at CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit. “But golf is a sport that you can play for the rest of your life. “I’m in a cold city, if I’m playing on the East Coast, and now the golf course is closed in November, compared to if I’m in the South and they never close, listen, my main focus while I’m playing a game of basketball is to keep the main thing the main thing. And I have always done that. I will find a golf simulator if I’m in the cold, for sure, that will hold me over until they open up. But, listen, keeping the main thing, the main thing has always been the main focus for me. And that’s the reason why everything has worked the way it’s worked.” — 7/17/2026 Miami Herald
Heat Central: Brian Windhorst says Pat Riley knows how to bring players back after sour exits when discussing LeBron returning to Miami: “Pat Riley over the decades has been able to have 2nd acts with all these great players. Alonzo Mourning left under a dark cloud and came back… Shaq after leaving with animist ended up returning to the franchise and got his number retired. Dwyane Wade obviously left in FA in a disagreement, came back now there’s a statue outside. Pat Riley knows how to bring guys back. While there was disappointment when he left in 2014, there’s never been the animist that existed in other places LeBron left. Miami has a pathway. Especially with LeBron saying he’s looking at multiple years. Multiple years have been the formula for him. He’s won a chip in the 2nd year everywhere he’s went. I think Miami would be at their best a year from now and LeBron can be apart of that.” — 7/17/2026 x.com
Dru Star: “I started off thinking it was Golden State. Then I moved on to Cleveland. But then somebody talked me into Miami. And I go, ‘Oh yeah, I guess I could see that you know.’ From a basketball fit the Heat's not a bad fit [for LeBron]. Philly I don't get that at all.” @ramonashelburne — 7/17/2026 x.com
Anthony Chiang: LeBron today: “What's most important is that I want to compete. I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that shares the same model as myself. That's like practicing championship habits every day." — 7/17/2026 x.com
Dave McMenamin: As LeBron James rattles off what he will value in his next team, he used the phrase “trust the process” and the crowd was sent into a tizzy, thinking he was giving a clue about the Philadelphia 76ers. — 7/17/2026 x.com
