Per his blog this afternoon. Should the Cards restructure and extend Fitz and use some of the savings to sign Faneca, Wells would be moved to right guard and Deuce Lutui would be pushed into a backup role.

Hopefully that is just Somers speculating, because as middling as Wells has been at LG, I don't really want to see him against bigger mauling DTs on the other side. :barf:

If that is the case I dont want to sign the guy. Brown and Lutui have the ability to grow into the best right side in the NFL, as long as they stay together and get more chemistry.

Hopefully Somers has just mistaken Lutui with Gandy, because heads would have to roll if Wells is starting ahead of Deuce!

I dont want Wells playing ahead of anyone. Also, Gandy was better IMO than Duece.

Faneca should replace Wells and Wells should be moved to backup guard or tackle. Leave Duece where he is. I have always thought that Wells was better at T than at G.

crazyness, something must be wrong. Lutui absolutely outclassed Wells last year.

I'll worry about it if Faneca's on the team. That's the main thing, get him in here.

Just as long as he doesn't wind up like an Oliver Ross signing.

Hmm, not surprised by the headline, but surprised by the specifics.

I think the more natural line-up would be Wells, FAneca, Johnson, Lutui, Brown.

Move Wells to LT and swap Gandy large salary with Faneca's large salary. Don't get me wrong. I think Gandy did great last year, but with his salary jumping to $6 or so that the Gandy/Wells combo is as expensive as the Wells/Faneca combo.

I don't know, Bach. I think I'd keep Gandy for six dollars :D

There was brief talk last year that Latui was under performing. Is there something that Grimm sees that we don't? Are we overrating the guy because he is the epitome of what makes a fan favorite, tough but good natured, fun loving, kid who grew up a Cardinal fan?

If there is I haven't seen it but this makes you wonder because Wells just isn't that good.

At some point you have to ask yourself:

Why is it that the last two offensive line coaches for the Cards have considered Wells one of the teams better offensive linemen?

Compromising pictures? Some blood relation we dont know about?

Or maybe its because collectively we as fans have little idea on how to evaluate interior offensive line play, and frequently confuse effect for cause.

I think its because Reggie Wells is actually Bernard Wilson

Or how it took a 3rd coach to realize that Pace is actually a LB, or a 2nd coach to figure out that Rolle is a S., or who knows how many coaches to figure out the Davis is a guard, and the list goes one. Coaches are fallible to.

Unfortunatley, Somers is usually on the ball with this stuff. I remember when he speculated that Wells would be back at guard in 07' and everyone (including myself) had a heart attack.

I personally don't think Reggie would be any better on the strong side. At LG he can pull more and use his athleticism. On the strong side he is going to have to anchor the line with Levi. i don't think he is suited to that.

Another way to view this is to read it as a letter from the Cardinals to Deuce.

And they write...

"Dear Deuce,

While we are happy you are a Cardinals we'd like to see better work out on the field. We, as a team, feel you can do better. Therefore, we'll threaten to bench you in favor of a free agent acquisition. Please take our public statement as a challenge and work as hard as you can to ensure your starting position.

Sincerely,

Cardinals' Coaching Staff"

That's been known to happen too.

Very well put. And in my opinion, Wells played superior ball the second half of the season. Seems the coaching staff thought so too.

Good call. That's quite plausible and may be the truth of the matter.

After the personnel decisions the last two coaching staffs made I'm still in wait in see mode in that area. Although so far I like most of what I see.
