Your Oregon Ducks traveled to Corvallis to take on the Oregon State Beavers on Wednesday evening, looking to keep their winning streak going. The Ducks got off to a hot start, scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on an RBI double from Elon Butler, and giving Oregon the early lead. They would follow things up in the 2nd inning with a bases loaded RBI single from Ayanna Shaw, before Elon Butler would come up clutch once more, demolishing a grand slam over the left field wall, and giving the Ducks a quick 6-0 lead after two.
But in the bottom of the 3rd, the Beavs would show some fight, hitting a three-run homer of their own and cutting the lead in half, 6-3 Oregon. Then, in the 5th, it was Stefini Maake’s turn to show off the pop, hitting a three-run homer to center field, and padding the Oregon lead 9-3. Maake would be responsible for the next Oregon run as well, pulling a solo home run down the left field line with one out in the 7th. The Ducks would grab one last insurance run in the inning on yet another clutch Elon Butler hit, a single this time, giving Oregon an 11-3 lead, and sealing the victory, extending the winning streak to 7.

What a game for the Ducks. Offensively they were able to come up with timely hits to push runs across, racking up another double-digit run total, their 5th of the season. But I can’t give all the credit to the offense. Lindsey Grein was her usual dominant self again today, racking up 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of work, and really only giving up the one mistake for a 3-run OSU homer. Her ERA sits at 2.19, which is actually BETTER than she was last season (2.21 ERA). Which is insane. She’s a machine, and if these ladies can continue to mash like they have been recently, they will go as far as Grein can take them.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks.
