Nebraska basketball made its first pickup via the transfer portal late Thursday night. Belmont forward Sam Orme committed to the Huskers on social media.
Orme played in 30 games for the Bruins this past season and averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He shot 55.9% from the field and 39.7% from behind the arc.
The sophomore from Carmel, Indiana, should fit nicely in Fred Hoiberg's offense. He stands at six feet nine inches, 220 pounds.
If there is an area of concern, it would be free-throw shooting. While shooting 56% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line, he only shot 64% from the charity stripe.
Social media saw several reactions on Thursday night, and we've included some of the best posts below.

Efficent
Sam Orme had an EXTREMELY EFFICIENT year at Belmont. 56% from the floor and 40% from 3pt range. Moves extremely well for 6'9. A true floor spacer. Frager Sandfort and Orme alone will STRESS a defense out.

Perfect fit
Not only is Nebraska getting an experienced player with multiple years of eligibility who's ready for a step up, but Orme is also coming from a winning program.
In the three seasons he was at Belmont, the Bruins went a combined 68-30. https://t.co/2ADQFY6Lqh

Must have a Sam
I think it’s really important that we have someone named Sam on our team at all times — never to replace another but to keep “Sammy My Boy” alive and well. https://t.co/FVW7O6Hjag
