They have many more parking spots than that - over 22,000 for MetLife with another 5,000 spot auxilary nearby ..... throw in the amount of people who can access via public transport, drop offs, etc - then the number of parking spots for a typical day isn't that much of an issue

In that general area parking will never be great, but it's typically not bad and on a normal game they still trust people to burn charcoal which is always a plus

Problem with the SB is that the NFL/Media/Security eats up so much - it sounds like half the parking spots are going to be taken and the drop off options removed and many other options either removed or limited

So what works fine for your typical Sunday may not work so great for that particular Sunday

The NFL Experience pretty much shut down the west side lots when the SB was in Glendale. I'd imagine it eats a lot of parking space, wherever it is held.

Although it does sound like they are going to try their best with the Broadway area

From the article:

There will be only three ways for the expected 80,000 ticket holders to get to the game. The committee will charter buses called the Fan Express, which will cost $51 and pick up and drop off passengers at nine locations around the region. Fans can also take N.J. Transit to the MetLife Stadium stop or be dropped off by vehicles that must have parking passes.

There will be fewer than 13,000 parking spots available for fans.

And hiring a black car, taxi or limo won't be an option for VIPs who will spend thousands of dollars per ticket. No cars will be allowed near the stadium on game day without parking passes, and any car that drops off a passenger will have to wait at the stadium.

"Nobody's going to be dropped off by black car," Kelly said. "You can have a black car, a green car, a white car, a red car as long as you have parking, and the car needs to stay on the premises the entire time."

Fans who had considered parking farther from the stadium and getting there on foot will not be allowed to enter.

"You cannot walk to the Super Bowl," Kelly said. "You can get your hotel to drop you off at one of the New Jersey Transit locations or get the shuttle to take you to a Fan Express location, but you cannot walk."

Ultimately, Kelly said he expects that between 70 and 80 percent of all ticket holders will get to the game via public transportation or shuttle bus. There will be 1,600 parking spots for buses.

The reduced parking capacity is a result of the large security perimeter needed for the Super Bowl. Fans will have to go through security screenings at the train station and again at the stadium, Kelly said.

Wow. You cannot just walk to the game. Going to make you spend money in the city just to get to the game...

No easy drop-offs either...

Yeah - the problem isn't that they built a huge stadium with a tiny number of parking spaces

They built a huge stadium with a modest number of parking spaces and dozens of other options to get there

The problem is that for the SB they are taking half of the modest amount, turning the available spots to a tiny amount (especially when you consider that "average fan" isn't going to touch one) and then limiting the other ways as well

If someone plans on going they should prepare to spend a lot of time in traffic getting to shuttle/public transport sites and then more time waiting to get there .......... I imagine leaving is going to be a nightmare as they look to shuttle that many people out of there at once

yup. the NFL experience and the security lines completely shut down ALL of Tampa's huge parking lots right by the stadium. this seems to just be the case with every Super Bowl.

Man you almost couldn't pay me to go to this Super Bowl (tongue in cheek). It just screams serious logistical nightmare. The hoardes of people actually going to the game and then the hangers on. I would not want to be anywhere near that place unless of course the Cards are in the game.

I think what will happen is that they will make the gameday traffic work, but it will be the actual residents of the area that will suffer.

Anybody that has even been to NYC knows it's all about the "Black Cars/SUVs".
This is going to be a cluster of epic proportions!

Seriously, it better be the best executed superbowl EVER. just for all the trouble it's going to be to have it there.

Even if the game is great, they have no control over that.
Even if the weather sucks, they have no control over that.

But this superbowl better be the the best fan experience and television event of all time. greatest pregame stuff, the greatest halftime entertainment, the best rockets that go off after touchdowns.

Seriously, if it's not going to be the grandest spectacle, the greatest show on earth because it's in NYC. Why do it there? Why go through all this trouble and rules and traffic and just the general clusterfuzz we all know it's going to be.

I'll save judgement until after the game. But the reason we the fans and the NFL was sold on even attempting this was because we were told we HAD TO HAVE THE SUPERBOWL IN THE GREATEST CITY ON EARTH!!!

So far we have traffic problems that are starting 2 months before the game! lol We have no fan experience and no tailgating.

I predict a massive flop and when you ask everyone involved if it was worth it they say HELL NO!

But we'll see, maybe it will be amazing! :) I wish them luck, but seriously it will be so funny if it dumps 5 feet of snow on them! :) I'm just mean that way.

I'll be warm and cozy watching on my TV. I can "tailgate" all day, watch the game in comfort, see the plays much better and not face the nightmare of getting to my home/hotel AFTER the game :)

I think the worst part would be getting out of the stadium after the game. What a terrible choice of location with an open stadium. Crazy.

All this so the NFL can get NY a game. Never mind the cold weather and how miserable the fans will be, not to mention the players.

Should be in a dome or a fair weather city every year. That way we get the best out of both teams for the biggest game of the season.

I hope their is an Ice storm and that will freeze the rail system and roads. Then all of those fans will have to WALK to the Stadium and get turned back becaused they tried to walk in.

This! I also hope that the final score turns out to be 3-0, because of the inclement weather. Then maybe they'll think before they put the biggest game of the year in a cold weather open air stadium again!

And its not even in New York its in New Jersey. What a farce! For those of you that have never been there the stadium sits kind of in the middle of nowhere, all by itself with nothing else around it. It's actually in sort of a weird place.

Goodell is a genius. I'm amazed at his brilliant foresight planning this coup. A SB in NY? With freezing temperatures, and a stadium full of corporate fanboys? You go boy!
