Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions Ltd and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures have today announced that Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) will be the screenwriters of the 23rd James Bond adventure.

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in the film, which will be a MGM release of an EON production. "Bond 23" is the latest installment in the longest-running franchise in motion picture history and will be produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. A date for the start of production is yet to be confirmed.

"Peter, Neal and Robert are extraordinarily talented and we're looking forward to working with the three of them," commented Wilson and Broccoli.

Peter Morgan is the award-winning writer of such films as The Last King of Scotland, The Queen and Frost/Nixon, which was based on his play. He has also scripted the upcoming "The Special Relationship" for HBO and Hereafter for DreamWorks. He will turn his attention to "Bond 23" on completion of these duties.

Since 1991, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have collaborated on a diverse range of projects including The Italian Job, Johnny English and the past four Bond films. They recently adapted John Le Carre's The Mission Song and are also working on the upcoming sequel The Brazilian Job.

I wonder if they can put together a movie that will have more people saying the movie was good than saying Craig is a great Bond, the movies not so much?

Let's be fair...Casino Royale=Craig is a great Bond and the movie was great...the last one, yeah, you're right.

I agree that we need to change the tone of the flicks (not Casino Royale...that was spot on) away from where the last one took us. I also agree that now Bond should be more matured. I do NOT want to go back to old-school Bond. Don't get me wrong; I thought it was a lot of fun. Problem is, the old movies are far, far too gimicky and driven by hokiness than the books. I love that Casino Royale took us directly back to the book, and I wish that further projects could stick to the spirit of the books more.

Is James Bond dead?
by EW staff
August 2010

These are dark days for James Bond fans.

It will likely be years before 007 returns to the screen, thanks to money troubles at MGM, Bond’s longtime studio, which has been up for sale since November. Even Daniel Craig seems to have moved on, signing up for the lead in a different potential franchise, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The last time the Bond series was put on this sort of “indefinite” hold was back in the early 1990s, after a series of legal battles (and Timothy Dalton) nearly wrecked the series. It took six years to get it up and running again. And in Hollywood today, six years is an eternity. “No franchise can afford to be away from screens for that long anymore,” says a former MGM exec. “You lose too much momentum. Even for Bond, it could be deadly.”

Hey, she's kinda hot. I don't know who she is but someone ought to pay her to go topless (often).

This is being released something like two weeks sooner in the UK than here (Nov. 9), and the early reviews are extremely positive.

Huh? He was easily one of the best Bond villains ever, certainly on par with Goldfinger and Blofeld.

I'll do you one better--he was the best Bond villain, for my money. And I think this was the best Bond movie as well. Just a fantastic Bond movie, with good action but not too much, with clever twists without being cheesy, and with plenty of grit. 5 stars out of 5 for me.
