WASHINGTON -- The Philadelphia 76ers received big nights from a number of players in Wednesday's 153-131 win over the Washington Wizards. With Joel Embiid sidelined with an illness, the Sixers received big nights from Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and rookie VJ Edgecombe.

Once again, Edgecombe showed his potential as he had 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting and 10 assists as he outperformed fellow rookie Tre Johnson. Washington's rookie struggled as he had only eight points on 3-for-11 shooting.

After the win, Tyrese Maxey had a nickname for Edgecombe in the locker room as he called him "PG one". Edgecombe did have 10 assists, after all, as he has appeared to earn that nickname.

"I'm just trying to make life easier for my dog right here," Edgecombe said while looking at Maxey. "They be hounding him, guarding him, full court, face guarding him, doing all type of things. So, I mean, they're trying their best to stop him, and they can't really, you know what I'm saying? That's just what I think. So I just try to make life easy for him. If I can get a defense’s attention and he can get open looks? We know the ball gonna find him for sure."

A big way he can help the stars is by helping them make the playoffs. A lot will be placed on Maxey, Paul George, and Joel Embiid over these final six games of the regular season. At the moment, the Sixers are the No. 6 seed in the East by virtue of the tiebreaker they own over the Toronto Raptors. Edgecombe is looking to get over the hump and help the Sixers get into the playoffs.

"Make the playoffs," Edgecombe said of his goals for the final stretch. "That's what I want to do. I want to make the playoffs. Everything is 0-0. Kind of back to square one, not really, but everything is 0-0. So, that's my main goal, man. I'll be so honest with you. Everything else comes with that. Everything comes with winning in this league. You can be great, and if you don't win, it don't really matter. You know what I’m saying? So, I want to win."

The Sixers will play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
