Sixers' VJ Edgecombe named to NBA All-Rookie First team originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
When the Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, some people didn’t know how he’d fit in the City of Brotherly Love, having to share the ball with the likes of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, amongst others.
But to put it simply, Edgecombe smashed all expectations, averaging 16 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, finishing third in the Rookie of the Year award voting, behind Kon Knueppel and Cooper Flagg.
Edgecombe’s dominance could be seen in his official debut with the Sixers, dropping 34 points on 50 percent shooting from the field against the Boston Celtics in the opening match of the season. This would be one of 30 or more point scoring nights that Edgecombe had during his rookie season, managing to be quite the pivotal part of Philadelphia’s back court.
During All-Star weekend, Edgecombe would steal the show during the Rising Stars game, dropping six points and two rebounds in the final of the showcase match.

For these reasons and more, it was announced on Wednesday evening that the Bahamian would be a part of the NBA’s All-Rookie First team, joining the aforementioned Flagg and Knueppel, as well as Dylan Harper and Jeremiah Fears.
Edgecombe is the first member of the Sixers since Ben Simmons to appear on the All-Rookie first team, with the Australian doing it during the 2017-18 season.
