PHILADELPHIA -- As the Philadelphia 76ers will head into the offseason, now is the time for improvement. Of course, there will be time to relax after a long and arduous season, but it also means players will get in the gym and begin preparing for next season.
Sixers guard VJ Edgecombe just finished up an impressive rookie season, as he averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. He shot 43.8% from the floor and 35.4% from deep, but those shooting percentages dipped to 41.4% and 29.2% in the playoffs, respectively. He had big moments, but overall, Edgecombe still has much to improve on as he moves into his first NBA offseason.
"For me, I'll say, on the ball scoring," Edgecombe said. "Like, off the dribble stuff. Off the dribble shooting, catch-and-shoot. Those two are the main things I'll focus on."
Per NBA Stats, Edgecombe shot 38.7% on catch-and-shoot 3s and 31.1% on pull-up 3s in the regular season. Those numbers dropped to 34.6% and 15.8% in the playoffs, respectively. Obviously, there is work to be done there and he wants to be sure he and the Sixers will be ready for the 2026-27 season.
As far as where Edgecombe will reside in the offseason, that remains a mystery. He will certainly spend some time in his native Bahamas, but he went to high school in New York and will also want to spend time with Tyrese Maxey in Texas. He will be all over the place in the summer.
"I've been on the road for the past six years, you know?" Maxey laughed. "So, I'll probably go home to the Bahamas. I'll probably go to everywhere I lived, to be honest, probably go to Dallas and spend some time with Reese also. Just like I said, just keep building, keep working, trying to get better."
If his entire maiden season in the NBA was any indication, then Edgecombe is going to get the most out of his offseason by working out as hard as he possibly can to get better.
