With the 2026 NBA draft done and over with, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history.
This edition focuses on the 2025 NBA draft as the Sixers entered with the No. 3 overall pick. After such a miserable season that was decimated by injuries, Philadelphia selected Baylor star VJ Edgecombe, and he made an immediate impact as a young player on a veteran team.
Edgecombe averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists as a rookie and he put up 30-plus points three times, including scoring 34 in his debut against the Boston Celtics. He also had 30 points and 10 rebounds against the Celtics in the playoffs, becoming the first rookie to have 30 and 10 in a playoff game since Tim Duncan in 1998.
Edgecombe will now head into his second season in Philadelphia looking to continue making strides. As impressive as his rookie season was, he still has room for improvement. He shot just 29.2% from deep in the playoffs overall and he had his ups and downs. Either way, Edgecombe was terrific and should be able to build on his success.
