The Washington Nationals have done it again: eclipsed .500 during the regular season.
A 10-2 win kicked off the series against the Guardians in Cleveland, lifting the Nationals to 28-27 this season fueled by six home runs to tie a season-high.
The Nationals also finished with ten runs, the eighth game this season recording double digit runs.
Zack Littell also lasted a season-long seven innings in the win, allowing just one earned run and five hits while tossing seven strikeouts.
James Wood opened the game with his fourth leadoff home run of the season after a 412 foot shot sailed over the right field wall. After Luis Garcia Jr. doubled to center on the next at bat, Curtis Mead would be next up in the home party for belting what proved to be the first of two home runs for him, marking his first career multi-home run game.
Jacob Young followed it up in the second inning after his 389 foot lead off home run into left field put the Nationals ahead, 4-0. After James Wood singled into left field four at bats later, Luis Garcia Jr. piled on with a 352 foot blast into right field pushing the lead to 6-0.
The Guardians would break the scoring drought in the bottom of the second after Zack Littell gave up a 377 foot solo home run, but the Nationals would get it right back in the next inning.
A 403 foot home run by CJ Abrams to lead off the third inning made it 7-1 while marking his third home run over his last six games.
The Guardians would answer back after Littell gave up a two-out walk before a double into left field drove in Cleveland's second run of the day, but once again, the Nationals would answer back the next inning.
The second Curtis Mead home run, this time a 373 foot blast into left field, pushed it back to 8-2 before the Nationals went back to scoring runs with hits staying inside the park. Daylen Lile opened the sixth inning with a walk before Jacob Young singled into right field. A fielding error kept Drew Millas safe to load the bases before Luis Garcia Jr. drove in a two-run RBI single, pushing Washington to double digit runs in the win.
The Nationals will look to pick up their fourth consecutive win in game two against Cleveland on Tuesday with first pitch set for 6:10 PM.
