The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp wrap up May with a six-game road trip to the Charlotte Knights beginning May 26. Here's what fans need to know about the next series.
Who: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Charlotte Knights.
When: May 26-31.
Where: Truist Park, Charlotte, N.C.
Series recap: It's the late-spring pattern that the Jumbo Shrimp showed last year. Jacksonville is in winning mode, taking five of six from the struggling Norfolk Tides and climbing to within a game and a half of the International League-leading Rochester Red Wings.
Highlight: In the regular season, highlights don't come too much bigger. Cody Morissette blasted a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning on May 23 to conclude an 8-4 walk-off victory against the Tides, which clinched a series victory and also opened the club's Honey Drippers Weekend. That was the first of two walk-off winners for Morissette in as many days.
Crustacean sensation: Some things don't change for the Jumbo Shrimp, and in recent times, one of them has been Jacob Berry. The veteran infielders has kept up his consistency at the plate, batting .311 with an .852 OPS through May and hitting six doubles during the month.
On deck: The Knights, Triple-A affiliates of the Chicago White Sox, have floated around the .500 mark of late but remain within reach of the first-half title with a strong series or two. The Jumbo Shrimp could encounter a familiar Northeast Florida face in former Jacksonville University outfielder Austin Hays, who has been with the Knights on a rehab assignment from a calf strain since May 19.
Probable pitchers Tuesday: Jacksonville's Dax Fulton (2-2, 6.60) vs. Charlotte's David Sandlin (0-0, 0.75).
