The Brooklyn Nets will be looking to retool a roster that went 26-56 during the 2024-25 NBA season and they have a few ways of adding talent to the team. One of the ways that Brooklyn could improve quickly is through the trade market and while there was possibly some interest in acquiring some big-name players, one great player may have a more complicated offseason.

The Nets have been one of the main teams linked to Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in terms of being able to trade for the forward if he wants out of Milwaukee. After losing to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the NBA playoffs for the second straight year, the Bucks could be forced into a position where they would have to trade Antetokounmpo. However, it doesn't seem like the situation is that simple.

"I don't think Giannis himself wants to go to the Bucks and say trade me," NBA insider Marc Stein said during his appearance on "The ALL NBA Podcast" with Adam Mares when discussing Antetokounmpo's uncertain situation with the Bucks. Despite reports stating that the Nets remain interested in trading for Antetokounmpo, there have also been report stating that Antetokounmpo wants to stay in Milwaukee by all accounts.

"With Damien Lillard carrying a salary of nearly $60 million, they don't have control of their own first-round pick till 2031, they don't have a pathway to build a contender around him at this point," Stein continues. "The rumbles that you always hear are that just having Giannis is so important to them financially. They're not going to trade him unless he pushes it."

It seems that Brooklyn would love for Antetokounmpo to become available if general manager Sean Marks and owner Joe Tsai decide to go all-in on the perennial MVP candidate, but it seems like Milwaukee will be taking a wait-and-see approach with the situation. With that appearing to be the case, Antetokounmpo may need to be a second or third option in their offseason plans just in case he doesn't become available at any point.
