As long-winded and repetitive as this thread may be, it's sure as hell better than the "Celine Dion" thread on the Everything else forum. Man I hope those people aren't serious.

"fair?" how can we judge fair? we only know what's played out in the end. we have NO idea what's going on in negotiations or what happened in the FAILED negotiations. i think we know ZERO about how "fair" graves is in his deals. i would assume that he's unreasonable just as i wouldn't assume he's "fair." let's remember, this is the cards we're talking about, does "fair" seem appropriate?

The player in question got market value and the Cardinals didn't have to over pay. To me that seems fair.

Are you suggesting that Graves made a mistake to extend the contracts of Thompson and Player? Or are you saying that Thompson and Player got screwed by Graves?

i'm not saying either, really. i don't know the market well enough, and don't care enough to do the requisite research to find out, in order to make either determination. and, actually, neither signing does anything for me. the thompson signing, well, i still have hopes he could be a player - thus far he has yet to show me anything outstanding. solid? yeah, outstanding? game-changing? no. and i'm not getting into the resigning the punter debate for a fifth time.

Ah, Shane, I believe that Nidan was attempting to show agreement with your statements; not calling you stupid.

Question!

If the Cards use all their available cap space to extend players on the roster won't that leave them with no money to pursue free agents next year unless there is a large increase in the sal cap for 2004 which is unlikely?

There are no longer any high priced guys on the team that can be "let go" to make room under the cap without seriously impacting the team IMO.

This salary cap stuff gives me a bigger headache than the one I have on Monday's after yelling for an hour and a half at a Cards game.

BTW if Shelton leaves they can just move BIG to LT and insert Roundtree at RG.:D

For whatever reason(coaching IMO) it hasent come together.

But you guys act like the guy has been a complete stiff in the front office and that just isnt true! His draft is looking up and extensions have been occuring under him. All signs of change. As well as the timely signing of two 1st rounders!

You guys have to admit that 2 or 3 years ago all of the things we see now never would have happened. Its happening under Graves!

It just would be nice to hear you guys acknowledge some good around here!

Outstanding post!!!!!!

The history of this organization has infected some of our fans. RG is working on the cure and has produced some potions that have eased the symptoms. Some refuse to take the medicine or aren't happy because it hasn't completely cured everything that was once a terminal disease. The Cards aren't completely cured at this point but they are out of the ICU and the prognosis is positive.

LJ should be signed and overpayed if need be. The Cards underpaid him initially and it's time to make amends. This is a rare opportunity that most teams can't afford, the 10.5 mil still left in this years cap must be used to help right a wrong.

As Shane has stated, LJ may want out for various reasons and I don't care if Vince Lombardi or ..... was negotiating the contract he may still want to leave. This is why Skorpps insided info was good to hear. The team is working on several players and not put all of their effort into just one guy.

If the Cards continue their progression out of the dark ages there are still other contract options they can do to help use some of this years cap space even after Mondays deadline. Teams do it every year, unless the league as closed some of those loopholes this year.

At this time last year many on this board were slamming LJ as unmotivated and very replaceable. Now he is the most talented guy on this team and a must sign. When he makes it to a Pro Bowl I'll put him in that category. Of course he has shown improvement and I also want the Cards to sign him. It's just another example of people wanting to scream at RG because he doesn't sign everyone who has ever played FB. Okay that was an exaggeration, but it does have some truth to it.

A 2-5 record takes its toll on everyone. Yet this team just held the 49ers to 13 points. The same 49ers team that just lit up the "best" defense in football the week before. How about some catious optomism.

As Walter's excellent article this week states, Coach Mac and crew know how to use the bye week. So it seems likely that this coaching staff does know how to game play well. Given the extra time they do a very good job. Now give them more talent and a team without such a lack of experience and they can get the same results without the extra week of prep.

Okay, if I drink anymore Koolaide I will pee myself so I'll stop now.

Wow. Amazing what a win will do.

Also, if our coaches need a bye week (2 wks) to prepare and gameplan than that is bad. Before we start talking about a turnaround let's wait and see if Shelton and others do sign extensions and use up that 10 mill that we have "stashed". Let's see if we can string 3-4 wins together and actually have something to play for come Sundays.

I am not being critical. Just skeptical. Remember...."Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." The only thing that will change my outlook on this Org (Bidwill, Graves, Mac,et el) will be wins. No moral victories. Just wins.

I was driving home yesterday and Michael Bidwill was on KFYI (of all places) from 5:00 - 6:00. He was there to talk about the new stadium and the Super Bowl, etc but some caller slipped by the screener and, after some "good job" remark about the Super Bowl said to Bidwill "So are you guys going to get Shelton signed by Monday or not?" Bidwill responded with something to the effect - "Yes, I hope so. Rod Graves has been locked in his office all week trying to get it done. I hope it happens."

As I've said before, my gut tells me this deal gets done before the deadline on Monday. The best possible scenario is that they get it done just before kickoff tomorrow. What a morale boost that would be!

i'll acknowledge that there has been change. and the dex/hodgins signings were good ones. but NONE of the signings have made the team any better, have they? as for qb - they might have gotten the best, but even THAT was accidental as they preferred kordell (scary in and of itself - no?). so they didn't shore up the greatest needs (d-line or wr) and missed on the qb they really wanted, and misjudged the draft. seems like business as usual to me. the resignings are good signs, now if they can only do it right. i'm not getting into the resigning the punter argument again, thompson is no world-beater, we resigned ronnie mac so he can sit the bench next year, shipp was a good signing.

what, do you want me to beat my chest with the pride at the 2-5 mockery graves has put forth on the field this year? c'mon . . .

I object to several points of this post:

1. Jackson and Hodgins have definitely made the team better. That this has not been translated into to immediate wins does not change that fact.

2. Ronnie Mac won't necessarily sit on the bench next year. Why are you darksiders so down on him. Can you please explain it to me because IT IS REALLY STARTING TO PISS ME OFF!

He's tied for the team lead in tackles at 45, forced a big turnover in the SF game and is playing at a pretty high level with energy, and emotion. He's not L.T., but this endless bagging perpetrated by you and cheese needs to cease!

3. "Mockery that Graves has put forth on the field"? Thats too strong. The cards embarrassed themselves against Seattle, Dallas and the Rams, but I feel pretty confident that, barring additional injuries, they will be competitive from here on out

If you can't see that this organization is being run more efficiently and more effectively than at any point in it's history, then I must say that I'm disappointed at your lack of perceptiveness. :D

Sorry to be so harsh. Ouchie, you and cheese need to get on board, and start toeing the line.
