Some concerns were heading into the new season for the Athletics. Pitching was something that let them down in 2025, and they did little to address that over the winter months.

One of their only offseason moves was bringing in Aaron Civale to help stabilize the rotation, and he has done just that. He holds a 4-1 record with a 2.59 ERA and 33 strikeouts over the course of 41.2 innings of work.

Offensively, the team is doing as most have expected. They have combined for an OPS of .726 so far, which ranks them seventh across MLB.

While many expected reigning AL Rookie of the Year Nick Kurtz to headline the offense, it has been Shea Langeliers. Kurtz is doing well, but Langeliers is playing like his hair is on fire.

He leads the team with his .336 batting average, 11 home runs, 22 runs batted in, and 50 hits, while Kurtz leads the team with his .414 OBP.

With Langeliers leading the way, Bleacher Report's Joel Retuer bumps them from No. 11 to No. 10 in his latest power rankings piece despite breaking even last week at 3-3.

"The Athletics have held at least a share of the AL West lead every day since April 18, and their two-game edge over the Texas Rangers is actually the largest division lead in the AL right now. Shea Langeliers is hitting .336/.394/.617 with 11 home runs and making a strong case for the title of best catcher in baseball right now."

Now, the A's will have to keep up this momentum if they want to keep their No. 10 ranking after the week is over. They take on the red-hot St. Louis Cardinals in a three-game series starting on Tuesday, which will likely test just how good the pitching staff really is.
