The Colorado Rockies were up 4-2 on the Athletics in the top of the sixth inning and had received solid pitching from rookie Sean Sullivan and Jeff Criswell.

But Seth Halverson and Zach Agnos could not maintain the lead. The Athletics scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, followed by single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Add it all up and the Athletics defeated the Rockies 6-4 at Las Vegas Ballpark on Friday night.

Rockies rookie Cole Carrigg slammed his second home run of his MLB career. More on that later.

Sean Sullivan Opened Game

Sullivan worked the first three innings in his MLB debut, but came out of the game after those three innings. Criswell came on in relief and worked one inning of scoreless relief.

Halverson worked two-thirds of an inning, giving up two hits, two earned runs, one walk, one strikeout, and two bombs to Langeliers and Kurtz. Those two big boppers went back-to-back, eventually forcing Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer make pitching moves.

Agnos, who is now 0-2 this season, worked 2.2 innings, giving up five hits, four runs (three earned), two walks, and two strikeouts.

Gage Jump got the start for the Athletics and worked five innings. Jump gave up five hits, three earned runs, walked one, and struck out six. Justin Sterner came on in relief and, unfortunately, picked up his second blown save this season.

Reliever Mason Barnett worked 1.2 innings and picked up the win, his first decision this season. Barnett gave up one hit, no earned runs, and struck out one. Athletics closer Hogan Harris worked 1.1 innings and struck out two for his sixth save this season.

Halvorsen Gave Up Home Runs

In the bottom of the fifth, Halvorsen allowed Langeliers' 18th home run this season. Kurtz walked up to home plate and, well, he connected with a Halverson pitch and it went way, way over the right-center field wall. It was Kurtz's 16th homer this season, putting the Athletics up 2-0.

Troy Johnston's sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning put the Rockies on the board, down 2-1. Then, with two outs, Carrigg hammered a ball over the right-center field fence, with Kyle Karros and TJ Rumfield scoring ahead of him. That made it 4-2 Rockies.

Then, the Athletics rallied from behind. In their half of the sixth inning, Max Muncy's double brought Jacob Wilson and Zach Gelof home to tie things up at 4-4.

In the seventh, the Athletics' Lawrence Butler was looking to steal home base. A caught stealing error on Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman gave the Athletics a 5-4 advantage.

Butler, with two outs in the home half of the eighth, singled and Muncy scored what ended up being the Athletics' final run.

Final score: Athletics 6, Rockies 4.

The Rockies were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left four runners on base. As for the Athletics, they were 2-for-12 and left 10 runners on base.

Both teams go at it again at Las Vegas Ballpark on Saturday night before closing out the three-game series with a Sunday afternoon showdown.
